If you read the GDI+ articles here on CP, the GDI+ library is fully supported in VB.NET. To do something like MSProject, you need to impliment classes to draw different shapes, and then create a shapes collection, iterating through it in your paint message.

I am working on a small project. The intent is to parse a varable length text file into both segments, then fields.
I am using the regex object to do the parsing (works great on static files).
My steps are:
1) Parse the (up to) 10 segments of each line into a 1d array, then copy that array to a 2d array with each line representing a different element
2) parse each (populated) segment into a table
3) insert the table data into SQL Server
Again, as long as each line has the same segments I am fine, where I run into an issue is
1) a line has a segment, but the next line does not (the segment from the previous line is copied in the missing segments place)--I have tried reseting the individual elements of the 1d array to nothing here prior to re-populating for each line, but this appears to have consequences later when I begin working with the tables...
or
2) a line has a segment appears (but has not appeard before) causeing other issues that I need to address--I think I can solve this one by evaluating the first field of each segment each time I load, where as now I only evaluate on the first line (I am looping through entire columns of the 2d array as I load the tables).
At this point you are probably wondering what I am asking? Well, I would just like some advice as the what I am describing to see if I am on the right track, and if not (based on what I have written), how I might get on it.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Parsing your file using regex is exactly how I'd go about this, unless the file format is static, in which case you may do better to read the known fields in order.

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know how to send a signal break (CTRL BREAK) to hyper terminal from VB.Net?
I have been trying using SendKeys but it doesnt seem to be working. For example I've tried SendKeys.Send("^({BREAK})") and I've even move the parenthesies around ...("(^{BREAK})"). I can get it to send other text to hyper terminal, so I know it can. Has anyone else ever run into this? or Have any ideas?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Please send me a sample project which shows how to use crystal report viewer 8.5 in a vb form.
|
|
|
|
|
Im using 9 and its really simple, you dont even have to write any code.
Just put the report viewer on the form, size it fairly large so the report will fit
Then go to the properties window and set the report source to the location of
your report (ex: c:\My Documents\report.rpt). Now when you open the form from your
app the viewer will display whatever report is in your report source. Im assuming
that is all you really need to know about the viewer. Let me know if i didnt explain
something well enough.

Hello, Im a VB.NET programmer from Holland and have created a MultiColumn-ComboBox. It is working pretty sweet although there is a problem I cant figure out on my own:
When I place a normal 'native' ComboBox inside a GroupBox and let it expand the List which comes out will override the DisplayRectangle of the GroupBox, but my MultiColumn-ComboBox won't do it, outside the GroupBox its invisible!
But it is not the MultiColumn-ComboBox "Friend WithEvents ListView" that has to overlap the GroupBox, but the whole UserControl. When the list has to expand the UserControl.Height will raise resulting in showing the ListView.
Please, I hope you can help me out. Thanks

This wont work this way
The normal CombBox is not expanding itself but showing a new window right beneath the control. And because its a window it can overlap everything else (it even can go beyond a form border which can NEVER be done by just expanding the control).
You will have to make something similar. Put the ListView into a Form with no border, showing it at the right place and hiding it when you are done.
Searching here on CodeProject will give you some articles where you can get some ideas on how this can be achieved.

Hi All,
Ive got a third party program that im trying to use in vb6. However it references a dll that cant be found (well its there but I dont know how to add it to the project)
Debugging highlights this bit of code:
ab = dll_ss12_dosomething( _
ab1, _
ab2, _
ab3)
I know which dll to call as it is an app specific dll but I dont know how to reference it correctly in vb6. There are tons of examples on how to do it in vb.net and even the support manual shows how to do this in vb.net but not vb6. Oh and vb6 is supported by this app. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello there
did you try to add the reference in vb.net as all the dll files are not COM objects and those who are not COM objects cannot be references like the way you are doing.... just for e.g API's also come from Dll but these are not COM objects...
so make sure it is a COM object other wise you need to use that as an API...

hahahaha.. thanks for a valueable information ... I suggested was for vb6.... So try as I am talking about vb6.

"did you try to add the reference in vb.net..."
didn't know you were talking about VB6

you missed two words from my quoted sentence "As well" let me put the complete sentence again
did you try to add the reference in vb.net as all
I guess you need a forum for English Grammer as well.
note::: dont miss as well in the above line
Search for that..

well tried
(ps: if you spoke english better first, there would be no problem of understanding you b****)

If you do not call a DLL directly in VB6 you do not need to reference the DLL in VB6. If your main DLL requires a second DLL that you never call explicitly, this is not a VB6 problem. Either the DLL is not registered properly if it is a COM DLL, or it is either corrupt, not the correct version, or not installed to the correct location if it is a standard DLL. The first step in solving your problem is to determine if the "missing" DLL is a COM component. If it is, make sure it is registered properly. Beyond that, your information is too vague to be of much use. If it is a third party package, try contacting the people who created it.

Thanks for that guys. I guess my vagueness is attributed to the fact that vb6 is not my strong point. Its not a COM DLL. From my understanding there are 2 steps required for using a dll. (1) The declare statement passing arguments byVal and (2) Calling the DLL procedure.
Now Ive done the Declare statement correctly but when I actually call the dll in the code it comes up with a run time error "53": File not found (ss12.dll)
Now what Im assuming is that there must be a way to map a path to this dll? Am I right in assuming this? Once again I thank you all for assisting me with this.
