1/ I rewrote a GDI paint program in GDI+ prior to OCtober and had no speed issues.
2/ Make the pen a color with an alpha of 0 and it will be transparent.

1. I need to render a ton (A TON = maybe hundreds of thousands of iterations) of 2D shapes as fast as I can. Do you think it will be comparable to GDI speedwise.

Even GDI is not good for real time stuff, that is why we have Direct Draw. The difference is if you use DD, you can build a GDI+ surface from DD directly, and vice versa, far more easily than using GDI.
As for the difference, I suspect there will be one, but not a huge one.

I have an app that can be extended by developing COM-Addins.
I can do this by creating an IDL and deploying a TLB. So, every customer can implement an interface and I create components at runtime by ProgID using CreateObject.
Ok, I assume there's something simillar (or even, better) in .NET. How do I do this in .NET ? I've seen something like Reflection or Remoting, but it seems too much trouble when compared to COM. Is there an easier way ?

Hai,
I am trying to install VS.NET final version. While installing, at first it says to setup Windows Component Update. But when I click the link in the wizard, it says, "Setup has detected that another program requires to reboot the machine. Click ok to reboot the machine and start setup again....".
I have rebooted my machine zillion times. But no luck. I keep getting the same message. I have uninstalled all my previous versions of .NET. Any idea why this occurs? Is there any registry settings that I can change so that this would let me go thru the installation.
Please help me. I have a project deadline to meet.

There is a readme.html file on disk1,about these troubleshooting.
I don't have those disks now to check them for you but I remember that
some other programs need to be uninstall too,so check that file.
(Do you have SQLSerever installed,maybe for it,just guess)

The three main things that VS.NET readme.html says about uninstalling are...
1. Uninstall any previous versions of VS.NET -- Yes I did. check.
2. Uninstall any previous versions of .NET framework -- Yep. check.
3. Stop .NET Framework Support service, if listed in Services -- I couldnt find it. So thats a check too.
Its still not working... Strange thing is. I opened up the moreinfo.htm file in the Windows Componenet Update. I read how to bypass this component update if you have all the updates in your machine. It also said, how to install individual components that are missing in your macine. Certain things were missing in my machine. One of them FP Server extensions 2000. So I went to the corresponding folder in the CD to run the installation. Guess what, it said, "This version of FrontPage Server extensions cannot run on Windows 2000 machines. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/fpse for details. I did go there I found, FPSE 2002. Ok. Latest version. So I installed that on my machine. Now it asks me to install IE6.0. But when I try to install IE6.0 I get the same error message.
"Another program needs to reboot your machine to complete its setup process. Please reboot and run setup again".
What the heck is the problem?

So switch to task manager and terminate all processes that you think they are not neccessary,or uninstall all program that you think they are not important or you can uninstall them temporary.

Nope. No luck. 
I have uninstalled, SQL Server 2000 utilities, VB6.0, VI 6.0. I am only left with VS 6.0 (only VC in it). I can also go ahead and uninstall it. But do you think that could solve the problem??? I am a little skeptical!!!

Try running [CD-ROM]:\setup\Setup.exe /NO_BSLN_CHECK from Disk 1 (disable autorun or press shift while loading CD 1 into drive)
For example:
D:\setup\setup.exe /NO_BSLN_CHECK
This way, setup will run without running WCU.
Be sure to update your system using the standalone installers on the WCU disk

I read this suggestion from moreinfo.htm in the Windows Component Update CD. But I am not able to install IE6.0. Can I install it after installing VS.NET??

Not read anything about it, but it's so dependant on new MSXML features, the start screen is a IWebBrowser...

hey I got this workaround.
If you have certain problems in installing Windows Components update. Insert the Windows Component CD. Run the setup.exe in that CD. It would say "Setup has been started without starting VS.NET CD1" (or something like that) "Please click Yes and insert CD 1 or click No to continue with Windows Component installation which will install all components".
I said No, and fortunately it was able to find out what are the components that are missing and I installed all components successfully.
Then I inserted CD 1 and it automatically disabled the Windows Component Setup link and ready to install VS.NET....

One more additional information. MS did not specify about the size of the registry or the amount of registry values that it is planning to write. While installing my registry was filled up and it couldnt write any more registry values.
If you change your registry size in the middle of installation it will not be taken into effect until you reboot your machine. So check your size of registry, increase it if needed (atleast some more memory that VS.NET can feel free to write, not almost going to choke), reboot your machine and do the installation.

Has anybody had issues installing the final .NET Framework SDK in place of the Beta 2 SDK? I tried to install the latest release and VS.NET Beta 2 said it couldn't even find the SDK installed ..
Anybody have same problem?

VS.NET requires that the framework installed match the version it was built for.
So no, you can't get VS.NET Beta x or RC y to work with the released SDK.
This shouldn't be a problem come the next version of the framework though, since you will be able to have multiple versions side-by-side.

Also Microsoft said you HAVE to uninstall any Beta version you have before installing .NET 1

Developer 7.02 lists .NET support explicitly, but I imagine you could do with any version, you'd just have to include the runtime and register things in the GAC yourself.
Of course if you aren't using any of the .NET features (ie managed C++, C#, VB.NET, the CLR) VC++.NET is just the next version of VC++ 6.0

If you like Wise, Wise for Windows Installer works with .NET as well; I just downloaded the eval and had my component installed into the GAC in no time.
It took me about 10 minutes to figure out where it put my setup program tho (crazy "bug" where click the drop down for the look in directory takes you straight to the desktop.)
