VB 6.0
I'm trying to create datagrid type control (5 rows 10 cols) that is connected to an access database table. The data is being pulled from several different tables to feed the main table. A combo box is used to query the data from the different tables.
i.e.
Col 1: plain text, user entry
Col 2: combo box tied to table (user list)
col 3: combo box tied to table (state)
col 4: checkbox weither is active or not
col 5: another combo box from another table
etc.
Data grid may not be the right thing to do. So far I haven't found any reference to this except in vb.net (can't get pass the database connections It's ok if I'm using 1 table with 6 fields). I can creat this form in MS Access but how do I recreat it in VB6.0?

If you're jumping from VB to assembler, I suggest you may well need an intermediate step. You've got my vote for confidence tho.
Microsoft used to publish an excellent book on the subject, I don't know if it's still around, but it's worth having a look on Amazon and also ebay. Sorry, I forget the title, but if you google Microsoft Press assembler, I'm sure you'll find it.

Nope. That's the Intermediate Language that all managed languages compile into.
Assembly Launguage is pretty much a dead art form under Windows. I think Microsoft stopped selling its Macro Assembler about 4 years ago. It's still available as an MSDN Subscriber download though.
What your refering to is actually here[^] on Amazon. There are other titles listed on that page that still cover the topic.

Like I said, in Windows it's a dead art. It's EXTREMELY tedious, but in speed critical code, it can be worth to time to write the machine code by hand for the best possible optimization.
Mind you, the only Visual Studio language that lets you write machine code in-line is C++. None of the managed languages will let you do this.

What do you think those two lines should do? First you assign the string "From2" to the object variable frmstring. Then you want to assign this string into the Form variable frm. This doesnt make sense and is the cause of the error.

That reminds me of one of the mistakes that I made when I was 8 or 9 years old when I was first learning to program and I read that you could make the computer sound in different "voices" (what they meant was altering the sound to emulate basic sounds like some instruments) and I tried to write code replacing the pitch variable with a string and then wondering why it didn't work and didn't say anything. (As luck would have it I got a speech synthesiser for my next birthday so I could get my computer speak some words)

I can't complain really. I had an old Bally Game Console that had a BASIC cartridge with a WHOPPING 1.8K of RAM. Yes, your heard that right 1.8K. Ever try typing in programs with a keypad that looked like a calculator?
From there, I moved up to a TI-99/4A with a speech sythesyzer and the Expansion Unit that was bigger than 2 bread boxes and an additional 32K of RAM. Whoo Hoo! Those were the days!

Hello,
I have been working in ASP.NET for a few months and i bought a few components.
I really like it because i get things done really fast and most of controls are really good.
Now i got a hit counter in http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/fastcustomhitcounter.asp.
Is it possible to transform this code and use it as a control?
Can someone help me out? I never did something like this.
The code doesn't seem very complex.

i had made a project which has 2 forms in it
form1 and form2
in form1 i had made a "oledbconnection con" which is set public
now, i want to use its getoledbschematable method in form2
i want to display names of all tables in my database in form2 datagrid. con is my connection to that database which is in form1
i had also done "imports system.data.oledb"
in both forms
ds is my datagrid in form2
my code snippet in form2 is

What is your problem ? How would you like us to help ? ESP ? Magic ? It's possible that the problem is that you've not called databind on ds, but who can say ? You've not said what the problem is, showed us the method you call, or anything else that would help us to help you.
Your code is pretty terrible in any case. Why are you putting data access code in a form ? Surely the fact you need to create an instance of a form to call a database method is a clue that you have an exceedingly terrible design happening here ( no design, more like ). You should not declare all variables at the top of a function, do it as you need them. Why don't you just not create an intermediate dataset at all ? In an ideal world, all of the above code should look like this:
ds.DataSource = MyWellDesignedDataAccessClassWithStaticFunctionsAndAStaticConnectionWithLazyInitialisation.GetSchemaTable();
ds.DataBind()
Man, non-case sensitive languages make me feel dirty.
I recommend you stop programming until you've read a book called Code Complete.
