I have been hammering away at my first ever program in VB .NET and seem to have got it all sorted out. It's a viewer to go on a disc with photographs for delivery to clients. It displays previews, allows saving of single or multiple images and reads and displays metadata. The code is not very tidy or anything, but in visual studio it works fine. Unfortunatly my understanding of the jargon involved in all this is non-existent. Therefore i really do not understand how to go from having something working in Visual Studio to something I can put on a disc with an autorun file and some photo folders and get it to work. I have managed to put the app from the bin folder on a disc with all the other stuff, and it seems to work fine on the machine with Visual Studio on it. It will not, however, work on other machines. On trying to start the app I get a:"Application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135)" message. What does this mean and how can I fix it. I would be most grateful if some magnanimous programmer out there could help me out of my shocking ignorance. Thanks! This enables other users withour the .NET framework to run the program.I know VB.NET 2003 has a great Wizard for doing this so you might want to check out On-line help as it is a bit long winded to put down here. There is just no API to tell you whether there is a sound FILE playing or a sound WAV generated from code or a MIDI playing, CD Audio, Line In, Microphone, DirectSound, ... On top of that, multiple sources can be playing all at once. It's just not possible to do... However, the ideal thing here would be to use stored procedures that accept parameters for the different things you require. As you're lumbered with access, the next best thing would be a function that accepts parameters and generates the SQL you need according to their values. I am figuring that I need to use some SELECT..FROM..WHERE statements but I would like to be able to filter the existing dataset. Im still a little confused between the Adapters, Connection, DataSet and instances. I guess it also doesnt help that I have the flu and my head is spinning on its own. What he means is, WHAT do you want to do? Open sockets, send data, use TCP or UDP? We can't teach you network programming here. A better method is to add a Reference to the Microsoft Script Host Object Model and use the WshNetwork class to add this printer connection, a sample of which can be found here[^]. This way, you'll at least get an error back if the call fails. You'll have to modify the code a litte bit. Once the Reference is added, your code to create the WshNetwork object and use it to create the LPT1: connection would look something like this: Dim myNetworkObj As New WshNetwork On Error Resume Next myNetworkObj.AddPrinterConnection "LPT1", "\\Server\Print1" If Err.Number > 0 Then ' Something failed!
