There's a program in beta called StyleBuilder XP, its shareware $20, it does XP themes.

TGT Soft they also make StyleXP for preview/applying XP Themes. I prefer its interface over the XP interface simply because i can switch color styles on the same page Smile | :)

empty name folder cannot be deleted

GASP !

for some reasons I forgot to remove the Write enable option from my Win2K ftp site and .... bhooomm ! Some weird people thought to put some files on my ftp server. Now, the problem is they created the files in an empty name folder
(actually is a folder containing only one blank space in its name).
Now what ? I cannot remove the folder ! OMG | :OMG:

Does anyone have any clues to give me how to remove this folder ?

The most likely cause was that the directory was renamed with the ascii alt-code for space which is (ALT+255). If you ftp in you should be able to type in rmdir ALT+255 to delete the directory.

Hi guys,

I'm doing a ::PostMessage() to a window via a worker thread. The documentation for ::PostMessage() says that if the post succeeds, then the return value is nonzero. However, sometimes I get a zero result, and then I check the GetLastError() and this returns 0 as well (I'm assuming this means "no error", as the docs say nothing about this). I know the window handle I'm posting to is valid. What is going on?

I have been trying to find a way to map a view of a file in to a pre-selected base address using the MapViewOfFileEx() function.
This works perfectly fine on NT if the base address is 0x60000000, but the same address does not work on Win95 due to the differences in the virtual memory handling.
Does anybody out there know an address which can be used for Win95?, or even better: on both platforms.
I am not trying to map more than about 50MB, but it is crucial that i can get the same base pointer every time i load the file.

Sorry, the allowable ranges don't overlap. Advanced Windows says 0x80000000 to 0xBFFFFFFF for 9x, 0x00010000 to 0x7FFEFFFF for NT.

Printer registry settings

Where in i'll assume the registry would i find the key for printer setup properties...?

I'm really tired of printing and having to click draft radio button...Printing in Normal for small articles is such a pain...so for the properties to default to draft would be a real time saver...Is this possible and where...?

This is not a question but an answer to people who edit registry and mess up their boot up etc. For Windows 98, the one way to restore the registry is to boot the system in MS-DOS mode and do a 'scanreg /restore' at the C:> prompt. Scanreg comes up with a screen from which you can select from previous backup of the registry provided your system backs up the registry at boot up every time. May be this is not possible for Windows 2000 server
or XP, but it is worth a try if your registry is messed up. For Window 98, holding the CTRL key takes you to the MS-DOS prompt but for Windows 2000 you might need your boot disk. I have done this anumber of times for Windows 98 -and it always worked- and never for Windows 2000 or XP. Smile | :)

For Windows 2000 server, pressing the F8 key while boot up will get you to the 'safe mode command prompt' and 'scanreg /restore'.

Hi there,
I have installed the NT Option pack over NT 4.0 sp 5, and use the personal web server to run ISAPI extensions of my development. The problem is, once a web page accesses a certain extension (DLL) and it is loaded into memory, I can't seem to unload it (stopping the web service doesn't help). This of course prohibits changing the code and trying again, since I can't replace the DLL in my SCRIPTS folder, unless I reboot Cry | :((

Any ideas?

Open a DOS prompt, CD to the scripts dir, and rename the DLL. Then you'll be able to rebuild it.

I've got a file explorer application - like Windows Explorer - and recently I discovered that ZIP files didn't show anymore in the file view under XP.
I've read at MSDN that people should now use IFolderView instead of IShellFolder but I just want my ZIP files back with a W95 to XP compatible solution.
As I don't have XP it is very difficult to test. Is there any shell guru there that can tell me what's wrong with my code so that in the end I can process ZIP files ?

It mus be different for kernel mode, else he would not have asked. I mean a guy writing kernel mode code would prolly have heard of GetVersionEx anyway.

GetVersionEx() is not the one for kernel mode - but poking around
in the ddk I found IoIsWdmVersionAvailable()to serve my purpose.
though it doesn't help with Win98 / Win98SE distinction.
(not very intuitive - but then nothing much is in kernel mode Wink | ;)

Does anyone know how to password protect network shares on XP (i.e. Sharing a folder on LAN). I am running XP home on NTFS. If somebody could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about XP Home but in XP Pro, there is an option at the bottom of the Folder Options list: Use Simple File Sharing. Turn that off, and you should get the security options.
