I want to display the content of a word document in a text box when the filename is highlighted on a listbox.
i used the following code to do it:
Dim app As Word.Application
app = New Word.ApplicationClass()
Dim nullobj As Object
nullobj = System.Reflection.Missing.Value
Dim strFileDisplay As Object
Dim doc As Word.Document
doc = app.Documents.Open(lstResult.SelectedItem, nullobj, True, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj, nullobj)
doc.ActiveWindow.Selection.WholeStory()
doc.ActiveWindow.Selection.Copy()
doc.ActiveWindow.Close()
The target is accomplished completely.
The 2nd target is when u double click the filename(.doc), the file shd be opened in MS Word.
This is also acheived.
But the problem is when it is run on client machine, it gives the following problem:
when u highlight a filename on the listbox;
"u get the message “file is in use by another application or user, (C:\Documents and setting\...\normal.dot)”. Then it opens a box to save the file and launches an instance of MS Word.
If you double click on the file you can eventually open it, but Word opens a dialog box that says “changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those changes?”. "
What needs to be done to fix this?

I am having a slight prob I am having a hard time finding out how to use an object and a select statement to get more then one value from a couple of tables I know the select statement I just need to know how to get it into my object.... Any clues maybe a for each statement I am not sure but a basic answer would be cool.

You'll have to be more specific. Your question is very vague. What object? What exectly are your trying to do? And what do you mean by "get it into my object"?

I am trying to get information like select Lastname, firstname, TimeofAppt from cust, appt, employee, person where P.ID = E.EmpID and C.CustID = A.CustID and E.Empid = A.EMpid and E.EmpID = {var EmployeeID}
The selected values are going into an object that I have create appt Cust and emloyee objects so I can display the information in the tables based on the EmpID that is saved in seperate var
I know how to get the value from one thing into one var but I need more then one..... it doesnt even have to be an object just many vars ....

I'm assuming you're using SQL Server ... You could write an SQL query to lookup the records you need. It looks like you've already written the bulk of the statement. Check into Parameterized Queries to allow you submit the EmployeeID as a parameter. Try checking out this[^] small example on MSDN.

Hi, I have a picture control on the form (I'm using vb.net). I can display a picture on that control by using Image.FromFile and supply the picture path. But my problem is some picture is not good to display in picture box. I want the user to doubleclick on picture box then, it will display the picture in an external editor (such as Paint editor or Ms photo editor). But I don't know the way of the code to do that. Could any one give me a sample code to do that????

You should use a linked list to do this, not an array.
The answer is simple - remove it from the position where it's not wanted, then insert it where you want it.

I am trying to create an appointment system that also allows for messeages to be taken via a LCD and text input device mounted outside a office door.
The LCD will be connected to a RS232 port in the PC and will talk to the PC via HyperTerminal, However i wanted to know ways in which i can modify Outlook to provide a constent link that updates and allows the LCD to perform searches on the Outlook PC

Your going to have to be alot more specific about what your having a problem with. What database? Or is it an array? What is your selection criteria?
If it's a true database, a simple SQL statement will do the job.

in my database there are ten process names and only 4 or five process names are applicable to each item so in crystal report or in another form in VB i am passing a query and wanna view the process names which are applicable with that application only my problem is how to display it on form to client so that the process name which are applicable to that item are shown...
let me be more precise suppose there is item :
astraleaf
the processes it undergoes are named:
1. lacquer
2. doming
3.cutting
4.taping
while at time of entering data user is entering the data by selecting the process name out of given ten names...
while at time of displaying the item with process name i want only the process name to be displayed....
does i sound clear... hope u understand the problem now

suppose i have one MDI form and mdi from has a tool bar which contains many button for record navigation like
move first,last,next,prev form all mdi child form.suppose i have many mdi child form and there are few common public method declared in mdi child form. and i want wheni will click on navigation button then navigation will happen for active mdi child form. so i have to call the method of active child form but i dont know which is my current mdi child form is active. so please tell me how could i call the public method of active mdi child form without explicitly mention the name of active mdi child form
if possible give me the sample code in vb.net

Uhhh... Did you look at the list of properties of your MDI Parent form in Intellisense?
There is a property of a form called .ActiveMdiChild which returns the active child form.

i used ctype(me.ActiveMdiChild.name,Form).Show()
but doesn't work.i think my question is not clear to u.i want to call a public method of child form having name form1 when user will click on the toolbar button of mdi form but i wrote

This tries to convert the String, called Name, to a Form object. Obviously, you can't do that! The code your writing is entirely too complex for no reason. Your already using the ActiveMdiChild object. This is all you need because if you look at the docs for this property, it returns a Form object! You don't have to convert the Name of the ActiveMdiChild to a form!
I think you're looking for:
Me.ActiveMdiChild.Show()
