hi Suzy,
you can read about googlebot here[^] If nothing on that page helps, there is support email... In that case, don't forget to post answer here!
Can't it be:
Why is Googlebot trying to download incorrect links from my server? Or from a server that doesn't exist?
It is a property of the web that many links will be broken or outdated at any given time. Whenever anyone types a link incorrectly that points to your site, or fails to update their pages to reflect changes in your server, Googlebot will try to download an incorrect link from your site. Also, this is why you may get hits on a machine that is not even a web server.
If I understand correctly somebody can link to your site with old link... and when site linking to your site is crawled, googlebot follows bad link.

It turns out its not just googlebot. When I got in this morning I had some more error notification emails. This time it was msnbot that was looking at the site.

hmmm... it might be that the search engines are "throwing away" the query, because it is that... a query string.
http://www.mysite.com/page.asp?id=12
becomes
http://www.mysite.com/page.asp
because the search engine wants the actual page, not some arb query...
personally, i think that using a query to specify a page is wrong. each page in one's site should be a physical page, and one should use post variables rather than get variables to transfer data between pages. it's safer and more "invisible" - especially when you're using some sort of online form.

Hi Guys,
I am really struggling, i am trying to save images to a database to display them on a web site, The problem being i don't have a CLUE. I have searched the web over and over and can't find a simple how to. Can any body help.
I need to know how to store images in a database (what do you save them as?)
How to retrieve them from the database, and display them on a page.
Any examples would be great.
Cheers

depends on the database server you're using. for instance, interbase and it's open source derivative, firebird, have a "blob" type [Binary Large OBject] which can save almost anything. mysql and postgresql have that too. ms sql server has an "image" type.
exactly how you go about storing them and retrieving them is dependant on the database server. that's where you need to read up a bit...
hth!

Hi all
I am trying to submit asp form info and save it automatically as a .doc.
I know there is code for doctype = application/word or something to that effect but I want it to save it without having a dialog box come up and ask the user where to save it.
any code examples would be great
thanks

You could look into VBScripting Client Side Function that then opens up Word on the client machine.
Starting with
<br />
<br />
Set objWord = CreateObject("Word.Application")<br />
objWord.Visible = true<br />
I can't find a code example, but if you can find any VBA book, it will give you a ton of examples of how to VBScript Word.
The only other thing you will need to consider is that your website will need to be a trusted site in the client's InternetExplorer. Otherwise the user will need to intervene in order to get the document saved (security).
I know it's not a code example, but hopefully it will be a good starting point.

Which COM component are you using on which operating systems? If the ActiveXObject is depracated, then it might not exist on the Client operating systems you are targeting.

I am using Windows 2000. My COM object is part of our software and I am using the ProgId.
Thanks for the help.

You may also check browser security settings. I supose you use IE; there is Tools->Internet Options ->Security tab -> Custom Level and there allow Script ActiveX Control... (try some).
One more thing that come in my mind is to set right for user/Com component: Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools-> Component Services.
hope it helps,

I am working on a Cold Fusion project, and would like to design a few objects into the pages. I have seen thermometers and other gauges at some web sites that look really good. WeatherBug has some of these. How can I find out some information on how to design special objects like this myself?

If you are looking to use .NET then I would recommend starting by looking at the ASP Reports example project on www.asp.net as a good jumping off point for building graphics using GDI+ for use in web applications.

Working with a big web project, you might find your self working with many pages. What will you do when you have to add many files with some content. Example: You have a sales product A and sales product B page, and you want to add some validation on both files. Is there an easy way for that? I`m trying to make an application for this.

What technology is used? ASP.NET, PHP ... ?
Sorry if I misunderstood your problem, bt I think you want to reuse some parts of pages, right?
You may look at Custom or User Controls in ASP.NET. Just make little search in CP articles, MSDN or using google... Not sure how is it with PHP etc, bt concept should remain the same.
does it help a little?

David

I`m using ASP. I gave the wrong example. What I meant was there are two page, sales for spare part and sales for tool, and I want to add validation on both files. With only two page it`s easy, you can open those files and copy paste the function. What if I have 5 pages or more, is there an easy way then opening each file and paste the function to each file?

I am afraid you must be more specific.
If you mean JS function, see this thread[^]
If you mean ASP function, there must be something like include...Yes it is.[^]

hmm Are you talking about IDE-level thing? Hardly. (maybe except some obscure use of Search in files & replace in Visual Studio)
hope it helps.
If not, ask for moretm

Just like that, but not Search or replace, but insert, so that we can insert JS function in many files. I`ve been making an application for that. But got many problem. I`m still looking for a RichEditView article in CP.

It can be used as Search and insert! Like replace "<head>" with "<head><script src="..." ></script>" will actually add JavaScript (see link I gave you) to all html pages in project (when you use "search in files" option in VS.NET)! Only ptoblem is that you don't have much control over it.

Good luck!

In JSP you can use classes behind your jsp files. (A bit like ASP.NET) I think with ASP you can do the same. This way you can create a validation class and call the object in all pages.
good luck.

You can include an asp page in another. Add the include at the top of the page.
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="Validation.ASP"-->
You can put this at the top of each page, even write a small script to rip thru them to do it. you can include as many as you like.
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="ValidationOne.ASP"-->
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="ValidationTwo.ASP"-->
Whatever code is in these files is now availible to the page that it is included in.
By the way, why have all these different pages. make one page that displays sale items after Looping thru a database.

Because it`s using different tables for each page
