After having a filename from a variable, How can I call the currently installed antivirus program to scan it, and then check the return code from the antivirus for a virus?

This is functionality that is supplied completely by the software manufacturer. There is no one method that will generically work with all anti-virus software. You'll have to get with the manufacturer of the anti-virus software your using to see if there is some kind of Software Development Kit you can use or what you'll have to do to get this to work.

Sadly, I don't think it was - there are many people who request complete source code for the problem they have and it is obvious from the wording of the request that they haven't got a clue, nor are they interested in finding out.
I would think that if someone has got to the stage of doing a thesis for a degree level course they would have built up a number of research tools. It took me a few seconds to find a number of websites that have source code for this game in various forms - maybe not 3D, or maybe not in VB, but they do exist. If the source is necessary so that the OP can work out what is going on rather than just submit someone elses work then any number of these samples would be suitable and translation is not that difficult anyway. For a language that I don't know I find I can read it long before I can write it.
Anyway, that was my tup'ny-worth.

Hi Friends,
I am trying to load the dataset to populate my crystal report.
While getting data i am using a formulae to calculate a profit margin here if any column has zero i have bypass the formulae calculation as it return some error.
how to use conditional statements inside the Formulae like this
if @Sale <> 0 and @Cost <> 0
({@Sale} / {@Cost} - (1/100) * 100) * 100
so please help...

The only thing I notice is you are missing the then keyword.
if @Sale <> 0 and @Cost <> 0 then
({@Sale} / {@Cost} - (1/100) * 100) * 100

I've been programming C++ with VS.NET for quite some time and I've just started messing around with he VB portion of .NET.
I was trying to create the Mcrosoft ActiveSync window using some of the tools in the toolbox. Everything seemed to work fine with the builder and I didn't have to know the code to create the window. What incentive is there in knowing VB when I can just access the toolbox? Thanks!

Strange question.
If you only talk about designing forms it is true that you can do most things done with the designer. But when it comes to dynamic forms than you will be glad to know how you can code a form without the toolbox.
Its probably like some WYSIWIG HTML designers. You can do much without knowing html but the real cool things must be done by yourself.

Sure, you can create a pretty looking form using the designer - but how will you make that form do anything? You can put a button called "Close" on the form but the only way to make it actually close the form will be to write code to do it. What if there's a control you would like that doesn't exist in the toolbox?
Designers will create the GUI, yes, but you need to write the code to actually make it do something and to write that code you need to know the language (in this case, VB).

Is there a way in to obtain the router's external IP address?
How can I query the router programically? I have an Addtron router.
I currently use TZO.com but would like to get away from the service.
I would like to create a service that would poll the router and then post my IP address to my RoadRunner folders which are always available.
This was posted on the ASP.Net board as well.

Hello, I've got a problem with my MDI application (first one I've written).
I would like to write messages in the status bar of the parent form, from a child form. So for example, if my child form, which connects to a SQL 2000 database cannot connect a error message is produced which is displayed in the statusbar of the child form, how do I get it to display in the statusbar of the parent form instead?? I would be very grateful if a code sample could be supplied, thanks.

Every form object has a property called "MDIParent". Access this property to get a reference to your MDI parent.
You will need to make your statusbar publically accessible to do this, however (or at the very least mark it as Friend).

2 solutions..
1. In add one Module. and decalre one global variable name X
on MDI load Assign your status bar to X
x= Statusbar1
now from any form you can change the values by using X
2. Pass the Status bar to every opening child byref and keep the reference in form level variable..
and from this you can change the status

I have visual basic 2005 express on my pc. When I save a project it saves it to c:\mydocuments(visualstudio/projects). lets say i have a project called windows application 1. as you already know in this file will be the bin the resources and everything else pertaining to the project.I have a small memory stick that attaches to the usb port with 256 mb.I can copy the file windows application 1 to it. But then when I try to open the project again on my pc it says it has been moved or deleted,but it hasnt it is still there. I only copied it. why is that. I am copying to this memory stick so I can use another pc to work on this project as well. But I keep losing it on my pc. i am tired of recreating it. any suggestions?

I have a small vb.net application that monitors a running program and if it is inactive for a given amount of time it will shut it down. My problem is when a user has typed some info or changed some info in the form and my program goes to close it I get a "do you want to save" dialog box. Is it possible to use win api to catch this and answer yes? if so, any pointers?

Personally, I can't see why anyone in their right mind would want to run such a program. I'd certainly be fairly irritated if something closed a program because I hadn't used it in a while - at the moment I've got 15 applications running (and for me thats low), most of these are sitting at points that I can easily pick up from where I left off. If the application gets shut down then I would have to do something to get back to where I left off which wastes my time.
Anyway, if the program pops up a "do you want to save?" how do you know the answer is yes or no? And what if the user has never saved the document before, how will you handle the next dialog box asking where to save it and what to call it?
Finally, how are you determining which programs to terminate. There are many processes in Windows that should not be terminated because they control various aspects of your OS. Ending those processes could destabalise your PC.
Sorry that I've not given you the answer you are looking for, but your project seems to be highly questionable.

The application I am refering to is an ERP system inwhich every item on the main menu represents an executable. In the SQL server database there is a table called applications thats builds the main menu system. I loop through this and compare it to the applications running on the client and kill it if the processor time shows that there hasn't been any use withing a given time frame. The reason I want to terminate the sessions after a set amount of time is because users log on in the morning and stay incative for hours on end. This is a big issue since we have only 35 concurrent licences and the cost for additional licenses is over 4,500.00 $ per.

Here is my problem:
I have a store procedure name stEmployees, with Code is the attribute. In the formula editor of crystal report, I tried to declare a variable string such as:
stringVar string := {stEmployees;1.Code};
ReplicateString (string,10 - Length (string) ) & string
However, when I run a check syntax on this, it returns error "A string is required" on the first line of the code. Could anyone help me with this problem. Thanks a bunch.
