Maybe EditorBrowsableAttribute can help you. It can be use to hide a member of a class from IntelliSense.
int ageval;
[EditorBrowsable(EditorBrowsableState.Never)]
public int Age
{
get { return ageval; }
set
{
if (!ageval.Equals(value))
{
ageval = value;
}
}
}

..please forgive me if my question sounds a bit basic but I am a newbie. One of the projects I've been tasked with is building a web based application that will be able to create questionnaires\surveys. This application will have various controls such as stop, start, address section, radio buttons, tickboxes, conditional boxes\sections etc.... Ideally the end user will be able to choose an element such as name, surname and date of birth as questions in the questionnaire. The user will then choose to release a version of this survey to a webserver where respondants will be able to answer the questions for the data to be collected. The main thinking behind this is that there are non technical staff that need to be able to create surveys\questionnaires without the need for in depth knowlegde of vb script or html, but an application with drag and drop or a point and click functionality would be more efficient. Is there any source code or sample available that could guide me through this? What is the best way to approach this? I have seen one approach where the application in question uses the required controls\objects to create an xml file that is uploaded to the web server which somehow translates the xml file into a set of functional web pages that collect all this data to an sql database. How difficult would that be to do? The name of the application that does this similar thing is called easyqd here is the website http://www.easyqd.com/
whether you believe you can or you can't you will be right

Is it possible to open a child window within an MDI and call some native windows method to run a program within the child window? I am wondering if we can run our legacy application within a window of the correct size but let the legacy application think it is in its own process space.
Is this possible?

I'm working on a VS Add-in, and I'm not sure if what I'd like to do is possible.
By Default the VS Add-in wizard adds a menu command to the Tools menu. Is it possible to add an additional sub-menu/control(s) to this command menu item ?
I'd like to create a Drop down list control that I could populate at run-time or even just a series of sub-command control originating from the default menu item added to the Tools menu.
Any suggestions to get me started or code examples would be great.
thanks.

Hi,
I have a UserControl that contains a Panel in it.
I add the UserControl to a Form.
I want (at design time) to be able to add, remove, move ,etc, controls on the Panel contained in my UserControl in the same way i would do this if the Panel was placed directly on a Form.
Any Ideas?
Thanks!

Hi all,
I´m writing a code where I have to serialize an undefined number of objects and need to save all data in a single file. I have created a class to do the task of mapping these objects in the file such a way I can insert and retrieve an object using an identifier. But to finnish this task, I still need some way to know the size in bytes of the objects being serialized to keep track of entries in the file.
Can someone help me? is there some way to get this information from Runtime.Serialization?
I´m using BinaryFormatter.
thanks,

When you serialize your objects, just check the length of the serialization stream:
Hashtable table = new Hashtable();<br />
table.Add(1, "One");<br />
table.Add(2, "Two");<br />
table.Add(3, "Three");<br />
<br />
BinaryFormatter formatter = new BinaryFormatter();<br />
MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream();<br />
formatter.Serialize(stream, table);<br />
<br />
long size = stream.Length;

When I run my C# application on the same machine on which Visual Studio is installed it starts up very very quickly. However, when I start it on a machine that does not have Visual Studio installed it takes what seems like minutes before the UI appears. The app is using an XML file for reading in it's parameters and that file is loaded in the Form_Load event. Is it the XML file that is causing the slow startup on machines that do not have Visual Studio? What can I do to make it start just as quickly as it does on my dev box.

Does this happen everytime you try to run the app from the non VS.Net machine or just when you deploy a new .exe? by the new .exe i mean new version.
Cheers!

Does the app run faster the second time you load it up? try to have another small C# program running to make sure that the .NET framework is loaded and then see if your programmer is faster. It could be the loading of the framework that is taking some additonal time. It should not be on the level of minutes, but you can run this test to make sure its not the .NET framework loading.

It happens every time I load the application. I have 4 different apps that I load on that machine and they all take a very long time to load compared to my development box. The server is a 2.4 GHz dual xeon processor machine running Windows Server 2003, which comes with .NET preinstalled. My dev box is a 2.4 GHz single processor laptop.
I thought perhaps it was because I did not change tempuri.org in the XML file that the app has to load, because the server does not have access to the internet. However, if I delete the tempuri.ord entry I the app still loads slow.

Hi!
I have a problem with a project I am currently working on:
I have to modify existing .xls-Files from my c# application, especially the link-paths of cells containing external content (mostly other .xls-files).
I have found several tutorials, etc how to read data from excel, but none how to write data or even links.
Greetings,
Matthias

Hello everybody,
I am writing an application that due with time. I use the DateTimePicker to get the time from user and store it in a smalldatetime-data-type column in the database. Then, I want to display the time user entered in a DataGrid, but only date is displayed.
For example:
In the database, column 'Time' stores:
01/11/2005 06:25:14
01/10/2005 07:17:24
01/09/2005 08:05:32
And the DataGrid displays:
01/11/2005
01/10/2005
01/09/2005
How can I solve this problem?

You will have to define the table and column styles for the grid (if not already done). The style class DataGridTextBoxColumn has a Format property where you can set the desired output.

Hello,
I have a question regarding a listBox. I am pulling data from a database and displaying the description in the listBox (using is as a search box). I want to be able to double click the description and pass that descriptions unique ID to a new method. Now I can pass the index of the description within the listBox but obviously this is not the same as the data’s unique ID within the database.
The only idea that I have come up with in do a count first, create an array to the size of the count and map the unique ID with the listBox index. This to me seems a very long winded way of going about this.
If anyone has any words of wisdom I will be very grateful.
Thanks.

Create a small class or struct which has two properties Description and UniqueId. Override its ToString function so that it return Description. Now you can add instances of this class to the listbox. Now when an item is double clicked just cast the selected item to your newly create class type and get the unique id from the property.

Hi,
I am creating a generic data access module for an application and I have come across the following problem:
A form calls the function that loads data from a table to a grid. Then the code below is called in order to effect any changes in the dataset. The problem appears with a table that has 43 columns. When in the selectCommand I pass a select statement containing up to 32 columns it works without problems. When I increase the number of columns it gives a "Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 records." exception. Is this some because of some limitation or am I making an error in the code?
The table contains 4555 records
public void SaveDataFromGrid(DataSet dsName, string dtName, string selectCommand)
{
//DGM 20040109
//This code works only for single table updates.
//Create new Connection
OdbcConnection dbConnection = new OdbcConnection(strConnectionString);
//Set the sql command that will fill the dataset
OdbcCommand sqlCommand = new OdbcCommand(selectCommand, dbConnection);
sqlCommand.CommandTimeout = 30;
//Set the sql command that will update the dataset
//Set the data adapter
OdbcDataAdapter dbDataAdapter = new OdbcDataAdapter();
OdbcCommandBuilder cb = new OdbcCommandBuilder(dbDataAdapter);
dbDataAdapter.SelectCommand = sqlCommand;
//Open the connection
dbConnection.Open();
//Fill the dataset with the data
dbDataAdapter.Update(dsName, dtName);
//Close the database connection
dbConnection.Close();
//return true;
}
Thanks in advance for the help
