completely agree with you. Ask a question, and you'll get 14 comments and 5 arguments about how the question has already been answered and why it hasn't. It's like having an entire conference room full of women dealing with "that time" of the month or pre-menopause.
Don't jump my case, I've gone through six daughters and one wife I've been married to for 46 years. I know what I'm talking about. It's okay, but I think the analogy fits to SO.

The way so many people left without saying anything and with no official notice makes me think it was sold. With the only question being if they just took over and started swinging an axe on their way in the door, or if it silently happened a while ago and the owner decided it wasn't making enough money and pulled the plug on most or all of the staff leaving what remains as a user driven shell like Anandtech became.

Yeah I found out from linked in. I learned to program on Code project, in 1999I bought books then asked questions here as I started with MFC (remember that?) . I worked for CP for a good year I think, early in my move to working from home for overseas companies. I drifted away from CP over time, I don't have questions any more and the questions here got ridiculous. But I still have a soft spot for the place

My first articles here were about MFC. I didn't even start doing .Net until 2007.
I'm user #7741. The reason that number is so high is because I've always been resistant to being a registered user on websites.

If you're feeling concerned, then I believe that it's justified. If history repeats itself, then I can tell you about it after years of past experience: a transfer of ownership or leadership can thoroughly destroy an online community. I've seen it happen. Take such events seriously.

Indeed - While I can understand the need of change, the way this was done and (almost not) communicated is weird : Would I leave a business that were my own baby and in which I put all my heart in the last quarter of a century, I'd have done it with much more party and sound than "Ah, and additional late point of today's meeting : I'm leaving tomorrow. So long, and thank you for the fish". I would not want it for Chris to stop without a happy ending, that would be very ungrateful in regards to what he brought to the world's programming community.
