1. The lounge is for the CodeProject community to discuss things of interest to the community, and as a place for the whole community to participate. It is, first and foremost, a respectful meeting and discussion area for those wishing to discuss the life of a Software developer.
The #1 rule is: Be respectful of others, of the site, and of the community as a whole.
2. Technical discussions are welcome, but if you need specific programming question answered please use Quick Answers[^], or to discussion your programming problem in depth use the programming forums[^]. We encourage technical discussion, but this is a general discussion forum, not a programming Q&A forum. Posts will be moved or deleted if they fit better elsewhere.
3. No sys-admin, networking, "how do I setup XYZ" questions. For those use the SysAdmin[^] or Hardware and Devices[^] forums.
4. No politics (including enviro-politics[^]), no sex, no religion. This is a community for software development. There are plenty of other sites that are far more appropriate for these discussions.
5. Nothing Not Safe For Work, nothing you would not want your wife/husband, your girlfriend/boyfriend, your mother or your kid sister seeing on your screen.
6. Any personal attacks, any spam, any advertising, any trolling, or any abuse of the rules will result in your account being removed.
7. Not everyone's first language is English. Be understanding.
Please respect the community and respect each other. We are of many cultures so remember that. Don't assume others understand you are joking, don't belittle anyone for taking offense or being thin skinned.
We are a community for software developers. Leave the egos at the door.

I've been just straight up hacking for the past several days.
I wouldn't even call it coding. I was doing black magic, going where there be dragons (with mixed results)
I usually do it in fits and starts, but this was a marathon. I'm surprised I had the stamina for it.
Himself has been at a linguistics conference over the same period. That might have something to do with it.
It's kind of empty in the house, and it was a good escape, but man am I tired.

This was once described as "gonzo programming" - working round the clock to finish something, for the feeling of accomplishment at the end. It typically produces more bugs than coding during office hours, and leads to burnout. Avoid at all costs!
I stipulate that there are times (like meeting a hard deadline) when working round the clock is required, but this should be very much the exception.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

Herself successfully managed to infect me - I just tested +ve for Covid. Again.
At least now it's only 5 day isolation rather than a couple of weeks.
And while I'm not as mentally sharp as I normally think I am, I'm currently not too bad - a slightly runny nose, loads of sneezing, impaired sense of taste, and my shoulders and back hurt like crazy.
Interestingly, my left arm hurts as well - specifically about where I had my vaccinations ...
So you should probably try not to read my posts without PPE in case I do give you a virus as well! I have fitted my computer with a mask in preparation.

My friend almost died from COVID when it first hit the United States (14 days in hospital). Since then he has tested positive 4 times. All subsequent times he tested positive, he had little to no symptoms to report.
He never leaves the house really, even to this day, and wears a mask everywhere he goes if he has to leave the house. He is 61 years old.
I am 51 years old, leave the house all the time, even during the Pandemic and never wear a mask. I have never tested positive for COVID, ever. Will I get it someday? I am sure I will. I have had all vaccinations available up to this point.
I have been sick with the flu 3 times in the last 2 months. lol
Best wishes to you and your wife. Unless things take a bad turn, I am sure you will both be fine.

Sorry to hear that. I know for me, when I got it, it suuuuccked. But I'm fat and out of shape and never go outside these days. Still, I suspect the same will happen for most people, that subsequent infections will be easier to deal with. Like for me, I stopped worrying about all of it after I got it. Stress weakens your immune system anyway. Putting myself in the same exact situations.... nada.

Being active with a healthy dose of daily real vitamin D from the sun does make a difference. Not over stressing out makes a difference. Glad to hear you're unscathed so far.

Sorry to hear about your friend... but it sounds like he may need a therapist more than an MD. Life is for living, not cowering in fear of the unknown.
I'm not a COVID denier in the least - I had a relatively healthy cousin die from it. I'm vaccinated with 1 booster yet got COVID (a few minor symptoms) last fall.
But guess what? I've had other family members and friends die of cancer, heart disease, accident, suicide and even the flu.
There is one and only one guarantee in life and that is death. Every damn one of us will die. PERIOD.
