yeah. I would love to see how someone has "learned" java in 24hours (without any background knowledge beforehand)
The only thing you can learn about java in 24hours is that you should keep your hands away from it

All of those "learn XXX in YYY hours/days/weeks" books are pretty much garbage (together with any "for dummies" or multiple exclamation marks in the title) as far as I can see.
Or at least, I've never seen one which produced anything competent by the end.

Did it happen? If not we should be ashamed given the large English presence on this site and the relatively small distance we needed to travel.

I've got a note from me mum, I was on holiday at the time.

I got a note too, I was here[^], it was well worth the 50+ Mosquito bites I am now constantly itching.

I got stung in the neck by a wasp and a bird somehow managed to sh*t on the inside of my sunglasses whilst I was wearing them.

No, they didn't. I tried to organise 3. Only 2 people responded. The last get together was supposed to be last night in Scotland, and I had zero interest expressed.
I have apologised to Chris.

What for?
I don't see how it can be your fault that no one could/would attend.

I apologised for not whipping up the interest. As usual, Chris was as gracious as ever.

As said, not your fault, I'm surprised the Londoners didn't get together though especially as there was going to be a drinks budget. To be fair I think the worldwide uptake hasn't been that great.

Indeed. The budget wasn't huge, but as I'd have been paying for it initially, I'd have thought someone would have run with it. Oh well.

Yeh, sorry about the thingie, it all went haywire last week. We got the completion Date last Monday and spent last week packing and this week unpacking. Still not fully cleared out the old place yet but we're now living in Crossgate. I've just realised we've had the new place less than a week, but it feels like we've been moving for a month.

I thought of you when on my holidays last week Keith.

I'd hoped I'd already make them. Less subtle next time

It's a decent part of the city to be living in. How are you finding commuting on the A690?

Easy for three days, then the schools re-started.
Pretty hard to get out of our street as it empties out on to Newcastle Road, a hop a skip and a jump away from Durham Johnston school. Not as bad as I expected through Durham, but the 50mph by between the A1(M) and Houghton is just stupid. I'm still six-and-two-threes about heading up the A19 or continuing in. About 30-40mins which is only 10 mins more than Hebburn.
The main problem is I end up in Sumberland

We were two People at the Swiss meetup - Me and Nicholas Marty.
Whatsoever, Rage and Klaus-Werner Konrad were supposed to join, too. Rage was on a Business Trip, and Klaus-Werner had to take care of his father (long story, and I don't want to tell it in public). vonb expressed interest in joining, too but was on vacation on Ibiza while the Meetup took place.
I guess it is harder to get Developers out of their dark room to socialize between each other than the CP staff originally thought.

I pretended I was there! Wondered why I was alone.
Instead I was stuck here battling with annoying wells and deep gas compressors that don't want to play ball. Oh, and walking around suffering with a trapped nerve in my neck. What a sh*t nights sleep I had.
