Congrats!
I'm at about 28.5 years now. Seems like we're dinosaurs these days in that so many people change jobs so frequently.

I had a mech tech who retired last year......42 years service! So we have a way to go to catch that.
But yes, there is a lot more frequent moving around.

Congrats Dave!
Have you ever just looked at someone and knew the wheel was turning but the hamster was dead?
Trying to understand the behavior of some people is like trying to smell the color 9.
I'm not crazy, my reality is just different than yours!

Congratulations! I never could hold down a single job that long. I made 16 years once, then decided that corporate life wasn't for me.

That's the great thing about the O&G sector, there are so many options. during the 25 years I have been;
Single Platform Based Roles
Apprentice <- The lowest of the low, just starting out. (1st 3 years onshore, 4th Year offshore, also 1st 2 years generic, 2nd 2 years specialising in chosen trade)
Designate <- Time served apprentice now in a ~2 year probation period getting to grips with the real world,
Instrument Maintenance Tech
Operations Instrument Tech
Maintenance Supervisor
Operations Supervisor (aka Operations Team Leader)
Projects Team Leader (aka Offshore Operations Engineer)
Offshore Installation Manager <- Current Position
Roving Platform Resource (Field Team)
Operations Intervention Group Team Leader (Control) <- Lead up the instrument guys
Mods and Maintenance Team Leader <- Overall Lead of Field Team
Onshore Roles
Engineering Co-ordinator / Client Lead <- Client Rep on a project
Instrument and Control Engineer <- Working 50% day to day ops support and 50% projects
Project Manager <- 100% dedicated to a controls upgrade project.
So, a great variety of roles which help to build skill set and prevent getting stale. Problem is now, Can't go any higher offshore, no more levels, so have if I want to go further, probably have to move onshore or overseas (where some of the massive fields have another layer overseeing a number of platforms)

Yeah, I know about the options.
For a major company I worked in production engineering, operations, reservoir engineering, exploration support and EOR. As an employee for a service company, I worked in seismic, integrated studies, reservoir simulation, etc. As a consultant I've worked worldwide and done all of those things along with petrophysics, software, artificial intelligence, training and business stuff. I've advised OPEC ministers and helped define corporate strategies, as well.
Now I'm still consulting, but also teaching at the university. (And finishing my PhD)
There's no shortage of options in the energy industry. It's the bureaucracy I can't stomach.

I know, and the bigger the company grows the worse it gets......

Congratulations! You beat me to it by a touch over a year.
When I started here I was using a 386SX with 1MB of RAM, running MS-DOS 3.3. My development environment was Microsoft QuickC and C 6.0. Build times were about 45 minutes to an hour, and the install fit on three floppies.
Now I'm using an i5, 2.8 GHz with 4GB of RAM, running Windows 7. My development environment is Visual Studio 2008. Build times are about 45 minutes to an hour. An install fits on a DVD.
Hmm...
It appears that build times are a constant in this universe.

Thank you.
As the growing trend is to answer to the clue by a clue, and I am desperately bad at solving clues, it does not get easier for me
Also, there is nothing like "female intuition" : Women are right whatever happens, this makes it easy to do forecasts...
