I think it's relative. As the scholar al Jarreau taught, the Shakira teaches that it is better to Cher your Meatloaf than to condemn your Bros to an Iron Maiden.

On this Journey, we shall travel in only One Direction. Past the Winehouse, through Dire Straits and along the banks of the river Styx. We shall break Bread with the New Kids on the Block on this day of Black Sabbath. We'll work out the Kinks from our muscles and expand our Simple Minds for we are not Pretenders, but Eagles soaring over Asia in a Rush to Freedom.

Today i realized, again, that sometimes I should keep my ideas for myself.
As some may still know, I am currently developing (solo) a Project-Management-Tool that is perfectly set for the company i work at. There is a lot to do and I came up with some pretty cool ideas but now after looking back those 1,5 years of programming and headaches for implementation i faced a new fear. After the first "prototype presentation" to project leaders the workload did more than double itself. Well now it's not only projectmanagement but also a complete workspace for everyone with integrated messenger and notification system. Displaying all Vacation, Meetings, Tasks in a fully customizable Shedule and a lot of additional stuff that is a huge load to break your brain. I estimated another 2 man-years to come up those changes, that's not even overestimated, i think it's to low if they come up with anything new.
Mondays are bad
Anyone has some advice how to pull the brakes if superfancyweneedthaturgentZ ideas come up again?

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Tell them you need a Project-Management-Tool for a project that size

You are lost...
After 1.5 years of work they used to get a certain level/speed of work from you...
At your next work start by doubling the time you need to done things, and left obvious errors i the application. Also do certain things in completely different from the original request and explain it with misunderstanding the definitions...
That will save you a lot of trouble...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

On a more serious note than my previous reply: Wouldn't it make sense to put a version into production that covers the requirements as per pre-today and then iteratively add the newly requested features?

That's basically what i tried to do these last 1,5 years. Problem is, that crucial and really needed functions did suffer under a "You do that now or we don#t see any progress" mentality sometimes. Therefore i can't release a "working" version that would cope with demands on project management. Backgroundworks and Databasestuff were tasks i had to do but no one did recognize it, therefore no "progress".
A lot of +++ work is delayed by me so i can aim for a pre-production version by end of the year but yeah, it's still a lot to got :/
