LSU's tiger mascot dies after cancer treatment[^]
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?
The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism.
Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

One could only hope, given said mascot's long service, that they would release at least one football team member back into the wild in his honor.
«There is a spectrum, from "clearly desirable behaviour," to "possibly dodgy behavior that still makes some sense," to "clearly undesirable behavior." We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. But stuff that is in the middle category you don’t want to restrict unless there is a clear way to work around it.» Eric Lippert, May 14, 2008

Ok, so I finally bit the bullet and bought the disc, hoping that it would... I dunno, just would.
It didn't. Fanbois pap after fanbois pap, and continually overvalued CGG -- an ounce of story is worth a couple of tons of CGG, these days.
That's the last time I'll encourage them to make more by giving them money for it.

I thought it was a good story and well executed. And I'm not a DITWTBSTFB. But, what do I know? I'll agree, though, it's not as good as some of the earlier stuff... And some of the CGI was subpar...

TheGreatAndPowerfulOza good story and well executed Well, yeah, if you're happy with the idea that the baddies somehow knew that the widget they wanted was on the Enterprise because they knew that the mini-monkeys would refuse it, and they also knew that the Enterprise would fly into the "nebula" (I love the way hollywood thinks of nebulae), still carrying the widget that the mini-monkeys had refused, then "well-executed" fits.
And that's only the first ten minutes. It was downhill from there, with story element after story element that only existed to make life easier for the horde of writers.
The original series was great because it was simple and clean (and was made in an era when there was nothing else like it).
TNG was great because it had such solid characterisations and (mostly) believable characters (and the Borg!)
This reboot seems to be just frameworks populated with set scenes and tableaux, the audio-visual equivalent of sound bites, designed to titillate fanbois, but with precious little structure to hold it all together.
That kinda kills all the fun in watching it.

Your first paragraph was all explained by the fact that the "baddie" in question had tapped into Federation communications and was spying the whole time. That's how he knew all those things.
I agree with your comments on TOS & TNG

Nah. The "we have been monitoring your TV transmissions" argument doesn't wash.
That only worked in the incredibly good Galaxy Quest[^], which was a spoof of bad sci-fi storytelling.

Lets get one thing clear: The long-time, die-hard Star Trek fans do NOT like the reboots. At all.

Untrue: I have been a fanbois since long before the stupid word existed and I like the new franchise. It is meant to be fun; unclear as to why everyone gets so worked up about fiction. If you want it real, watch a documentary.

Me and my GF love Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who - we are not hardcore enough for anyone of them it seems. Except for the guys at Forbidden Planet, they kind of like us and I still don't know why

I'm hardcore enough to own every season box set of TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT, and every movie. Paramount stopped getting my money starting with the reboots however.
The Kelvin timeline movies (aka "JJ-Trek" aka "Nu-Trek") are just mindless action movies like Transformers that end up in the bargain bin 3 months after release. If that.

It's true they are mostly action movies. But I recall plenty of action in the original timeline.

I wasn't saying you can't have action in a Star Trek movie. But you can't make something purely action and call it Star Trek either.
