This is a great reminder that I need to get a handle on my out of control DirecTV account. My wife set it up over 5 years ago, and the first couple of years weren't bad cost wise, however, when I last checked, my bill was up to USD $250 for a month!
My wife is a sports fan, so Sunday Ticket is a big part. Also, though we rarely watch movies, we have all the movie channels...the logic is that the kids watch them when they're home, which is a total of about 5-6 days a year anymore. Also, we had to have additional boxes in the pool room, the sun room, and an upstairs bedroom...combined these may see zero usage for months at a time. There's got to be a better/cheaper way! Good luck with your viewing!

Price was may rationale after TWC arbitrarily upped the price by around $40 a month.

Here in the states, ISPs are making it more and more difficult to cut the cord. In fact, to save money, the wife actually had to sign us up for one of those stupid combo deals for TV and internet, after they kept jacking up the price of just having internet. I don't really understand how that one works...
They're also starting to implement data caps in more and more markets, and we're getting one come the first. If any of the alternatives to Comcast in my area were faster than simply shouting 'one-zero-zero-one' over tin-cans-and-string and hand transcribing the bits, I'd have switched a long time ago.
What gets me about the situation, is that Comcast's TV and internet services are pushed over the exact same wire, using the exact same bandwidth. Yet, if I pay for TV, and watch TV over their cable service, those bits don't count against my data cap. But if I watch TV over the internet, say with Hulu or NetFlix, that does count against my cap...
What that amounts to, is traffic being treated preferentially based on source, which is against FCC regulations. How they keep getting away with this practice (claims of bribery and corporate lobbying aside) is beyond me.

I have three pairs: One for walking around and driving, one for reading, and one for the computer (different strength to the readers so I'm at a comfortable distance from the displays).
For a couple of years, my computer glasses have been held together with tape, after one of the lens holder frames snapped .
For a year of so, my readers have been held together with wire after after a thread stripped and a lens fell out.
Now my "walk and drive" glasses are also taped together, as the bridge has snapped giving me two monocles...
Gah! Is it just me or do glasses break, fall apart, or generally die damn quickly these days?

Get some varifocals.
The huge advantage (apart from being able to see) is that if you wear one pair all day, you don't weaken them by constantly taking them on and off and they last an awful lot longer.

I used to have varifocals, and they were great.
Until you tried to do anything above your head. At which point you had to tip your head so far back to focus on where the screwdriver (or spanner, or whatever) had to go that you couldn't do it.
I may go back to them, and keep a pair of readers for overhead jobs.

That's what I have. The readers are also good for reading in bed when the eyes are more tired. Although Kindle helps by allowing me to use big fonts.

Walking & driving indicates shortsightedness, whereas readers indicates longsighted. (I'm both too but can read by taking my normal glasses off.) For the computer I use my normal specs, just push the displays further back (and use wireless kb/mouse). I only use readers to read stuff when I've got contacts on (with contacts can wear non dorky sunglasses, good for long driving/non work days). But I find contacts are horrible for looking at computer screens, even with readers.
Anyhoo, after all of that what I wanted to say is: you know they have readers at the 99c store - buy a dozen and you'll be set for a few years - can even leave a pair by [or in] the fridge for trying to id midnight munchies.

I used to hate glasses until I fell through a glass door, judging by the pit in the left lens that could have ruined that day (and possibly lead to a load of Pirate jokes at my expense). I found it's always better to get sprung hinges as those that don't end up broken.

Other day riding bike idiot turned right in front of me, slammed brakes (disk), cartwheeled the bike, literally landed on my glasses.
I'm thankful the optometrist who made my last pair insisted I go plastic lenses - formerly was always glass - talk about a good call.
Glasses frame completely mangled with 1 side a figure 8, (I'm guessing even with sprung hinges not the best choice for landing gear.) And both lenses: a few feet away but both intact. (I'm sure if they were glass I'd have been cyclopsed or worse - thanks eye-doc!)

Plastic lens are useful for some things, I have found if you are soldering you can get flux spit that leaves a little divot and will drive you nuts!
|
|
|
|
|
Yeah I had a small scratch on one lens (before the fall) that annoyed me. And yeah the plastic these days is really good, but there are still some things that hurt them over time (- which is why formerly I insisted on glass.)
But now: for sure I'll go the safety option of plastic; lesson learned (luckily not the 'hard way') - easier to replace scratched lens than an eyeball. [I don't do soldering - perhaps you could invest in a separate pair for that task.]
