First I must mention, why would you not include the Chronic Idiots? The Chronic Idiots are the first, and most important not to get along with. Granted that goes without saying, but now you have offended them.
I think this depends heavily on definitions, particularly how you define getting along. If getting along with people means being nice to them and treating them fairly as possible, than I really do believe that you should try to get along with everyone. If it means not tolerating their crap, calling them out when needed and not letting them slack off, than yeah you won't be getting along with everyone.
My current job aside, I usually like everybody I work with, and usually develop several lasting friendships at each job. There are always people who, for one reason or another, I actively avoid but when I have worked in a good job they are usually limited. If I was forced to deal with them, I would be as patient as possible with them, but it would be like nails grinding on a chalkboard the whole time. In general, would be highly tiring and trying all at once and I would not like doing it often.
My current job, however, is very different. I highly dislike my boss. He was a medium level programmer, with a fair amount of skill, promoted to management who never should have been. He is a horrible leader, a horrible manager and a worse boss. In his current position he quite literally has no redeeming qualities. He has started to stack the department with only people he likes and has known in other jobs, passes all the good assignments to them, and has begun to develop a cult of personality following him that neither challenges his bad decisions, or would be willing to even speak up. And the list of really bad decisions, well, that list is gigantic and some of those have cost a significant amount of money lost. Currently, I don't get along with him or anybody he has brought along.
That being said an obvious question comes to mind, why would I continue to work there. A long story short, I usually decide to change jobs every three to five years depending on projects, future and a lot of other factors. As an example, I had one job that the project manager left right after a big project and for the next 9 months we couldn't hold a project manager and had no work. I get really bored with nothing to do, even though I was still getting paid. I have never had a truly horrible boss till my current one though, and I was considering finding other work his first week, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't me that was the problem. It could be I had the personality issue so I stuck with it until currently, I am hunting for work now, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't the one that my coworkers couldn't get along with. Turns out it is him and his people. The others in the department that were there before him, except one, are all looking for work. In this current situation, I have to literally not talk because he will berate me and shoot every idea down. I find that I have absolutely no reason to get along with anyone. I usually keep my mouth shut, but I find if somebody floats a truly idiotic idea, I am much more likely to hammer it and expose the idiocy.

First of all, as an Idiot they can't help themselves. That's different, indeed, from the anal outcastings with legs that I dislike.nightsoul94 wrote: There are always people who, for one reason or another, I actively avoid Long ago I figured out that I'll leave the 'active avoidance' to them. One of us, putting out that effort, is enough. Result is the same - except the satisfaction of knowing they've got one more burden in life.
The was a manger->director->fired where I am now. He was nick-named "The Obstructor in Chief" and my ignoring what he said to fix problems was Oh So Satisfying as there's nothing he could do about my making things better. Although way too late, he was finally fired.

I am very easy to get along with...all you have to do is stay out of my way and don't bother me. And we will get along just fine.
I'm always polite to my co-workers, and compliment them when possible.
I once had a co-worker who I described, rather publicly, as a trained chimpanzee. The idiot didn't realize that I was trying to pay him a compliment. Actually, I didn't think he was trained at all.
Some people are just hard to get along with despite my best efforts.

I'm really easy to get along with once those involved learn to see things my way.

I am told that I am pretty judgmental, and I would not disagree. I do contend, however, that I judge someone by the criteria that individual has set for himself; I endeavor to not judge someone by the criteria I have set. So far in life, I get along amicably with most everyone except hypocrites, and for obvious reasons, I have no desire to get along with such individuals.
Having said that, that certainly does not mean I agree with everyone concerning every, or for that matter, any points. I will happily debate any topic, sometimes quite heatedly, but once that discussion is over, it is over for me. My wife has never understood that concept: for her, a disagreement lasts days or weeks, whereas in my life, it was over in minutes.

Hi All,
In my continuing struggle to get stuff out the door, I came across a beauty my company has been running an eval of lens to fit our Cameras. These controllers have been in the field over 5 years. Looking over the test specs to retest the eval lens, I find no mention of the reset switch. So there is a reset switch by the Power connector, me, being me pressed said switch, nothing happens. Hold switch in nothing happens. Take cover off unit (with Torx screws) which a non-trivial, find a push button standing out for the PCB. So this approved unit has not been tested as there is a switch which does nothing (well it sends a logic level to the processor which ignores it). Raise a fault flag get dragged into three meeting for raising a fault flag with something that has been shipped! Yes it is safety critical!...

You are new at this place right? I remember when you were AtThePub. Not your fault if the previous person doing your job was lax. You were thorough. Stand your ground, especially if it is a safety issue. Fixing the faulty part will be a lot cheaper than being sued when the faulty part fails and someone is injured.

Which is what I said word for word. Like the other safety issue I raised that was just dangerous lots of complaining then it gets corrected and I get lots of praise by people that can't get me a rise!

Well it's not really human operable, buried in a roadside cabinet, you're supposed to remote In, but...

Me: 'Of course I tried the reset switch! I'm not a complete moron!'
Tech Support: 'Ummm, yeah, that must be a defective switch. Please unplug the unit and wait for at least 2 minutes and retry. Thank You and Goodbye!'

Really? That was hard!
I did think that the definition wasn't going to be the "liar" part, but as I am off work on Monday I didn't put much effort in trying to solve it... though I doubt I would have ever got that one anyway.
That's the third unsolved one this week! I think we are all getting too mean
