However, if you read my posts you'll see I'm much more anti-social than social, even on here.

Hi All,
I moaned about Win 10 mucking my monitors up (go it sorted) now for the winge is 'Paint3D', not being very arty I always found Windows Paint to be useful quick doodles, now I have been forced to 10 we Paint3D which combines Paint with 3D! So you have to battle an interface that is odd just to save a bleedin' fault bitmap (which has to be a PNG) for some stupid reason it tries to save them as BMP's!
Why, the old worked fine!

I'm running the latest Win10 build (1909 OS Build 18363.476) and Paint still works fine for me. just search for "Paint" and it should still be there, as well as "Paint 3d"

hmmm, I wonder what else is still with us...
Dang me Notepad...

Don't kid about Notepad.
Mary Jo Foley (long-time Windows journalist and one of the current hosts of the Windows Weekly podcast) is dead serious about MS not changing Notepad as that's the only tool she uses and she doesn't want it to get any sort of new "feature". It's become a recurring joke on the podcast.

But now it has new features - line nos in the footer. A star after the filename to show it has been changed and not saved. They may be minor (and actually useful albeit not original) but it shows that even Notepad is not sacrosanct.

Yeah - MS is really showing a lot of restraint with those updates...

I'm still using 7 (occasionally on VM's), everything still works like it used to
- no lost productivity because redmoron decided to remove / change / "update" something [that was 100% fine].
btw - OT:Quote: Microsoft is ready to push a full-screen warning to Windows 7 users who are still running the OS after January 14. The nag-screen payload is part of the December 10 Patch Tuesday monthly rollup. people still installing updates on win 7???
why??? there are no updates, there are no fixes, just this sort of crap
-- ms have all but admitted as much
please - for your own good, if you're on win7 turn off updates NOW!

Oh that I could still use 7, at this company 8 with a start button, Seven on some of the older laptops was the closet I got...

There is one feature in Paint3D that works really well for me...the 'Magic Select'. I still use the old Paint also for color matching. One other old graphics app I still cling to is MS Photo Editor.

I completely agree, used to use it, but the 'Flower' that controls the PC won't allow it! I have used Adobe Photo thing find Paint.NET better!

The @#!$!!$ muppets in our IT gestapo decided that since it was freeware it was suspicious and they blocked access to the web site. This despite the fact that I've been using it for all of our product installers for over ten years. When I told them this they threw their hands up in horror, and then fainted dead away when I also told them I hadn't vetted it through the company legal department before using it.

I hope you are not saying you prefer Paint.NET over Photoshop?? I prefer MSPaint over Paint.NET, use GIMP or InkScape instead if you need free. Do they still include the standard Paint in Win10? I only ever found the Paint3D, so I copied the MSPaint.exe across from a 8.1 installation thinking it wasn't included...

I though it was done for, but I typed into the Search function and up it popped! same with NotePad (not that I use it!)

Start|Run mspaint (win key + R)
it's still there.

This xmas, I have decided to buy myself a Printer so that women in my house feel happy they got extra gifts.
The problem is that I have got like 3 inkjet printers ( range 45 to 70$) in last 4 years. We don't use it often and when we needed to use it, ink was dry or some issues props up.
So when you go to get ink, the cost almost 30$ makes me think , let me just print couple of pages in a shop.
So does laser printer a better option?
Is there pre defined cost to benefit ratio excel sheet of known printers to help me decide?
cheers,
Super

Question: Would you ever want to print printable CDs or printable DVDs? If so a laserjet is probably not the right choice. I have a Canon MG7720 just for that purpose.
