I have planned a trip to Edinburgh tomorrow but just found out that there is a yellow warning due to heavy wind etc. My plan was to stay there for xmas and do a day tour to highlands on 26th. But not sure if it's a good idea due to weather condition.
Is anyone from Edinburgh or around Edinburgh who can confirm it's crazy out there and I must cancel my tickets.
Thanks

Scotland & highlands in autumn/winter is incredibly beautiful, scenic & BRACING (aka COLD) if you are southern Wuss like me. If however you are from the Northern Parts of the UK (and have more than a passing acquaintance Iru Bru!) it should not be too bad. However the weather forecast is for flying cows so I would think carefully about it now, (off topic, Why are there so many people shopping like its going to be the siege of Stalingrad)

I almost wept when I saw it for sale in a supermarket when I lived in the middle east. Being from Newcastle I re-iterate almost. However, I did shed a tear when I found the truthfully-titled "Pork Butcher".

Mmmm, strange how it's main stream ("like dude, it's forgotten where it came from") when I was a Kid my family bought a Soda Stream and my Mum (born near Newcastle) was in shock it was available as a flavour, as we only had it when one of her relative either bought a (Glass, returnable) bottle down.
Ah well 'Barrs Irn Bru mad in Scotland from Girders!'

It's been available around here as far back as I can remember (though originally in the bottles you describe). Used to be one of the three tipples of choice when getting a paper from the chippie (the others were Tizer and Dandelion & Burdock). I think Barr's had a plant in Newcastle.
Rust-coloured goodness in a glass.
[Edit]
Cracked and had to go to the canteen to buy a tin.

Because the shops are closed for one whole day!
Obviously, you have to stock up on perishables: you need a dozen loaves of bread because you might get fifty visitors who want a Turkey Sandwich on Christmas day, obviously. And they are all going to need a dozen cups of tea, so you need 40 pints of milk and a couple of kilos of sugar. And another bottle of vodka, three more boxes of chocolates and a turkey so huge it won't actually fit in the oven1. And quick - we need a sack of potatoes, I've got to cook a kilo of roasties each, and grab those sausages, and the sprouts we all hate - no, just kick her, she'll let go, they are ours - What's that red thing? Dunno? Grab it anyway...
One place in the south of England I used to live in the locals would take two trolleys with them on Christmas eve: one for food, and one for bread...
1 I had that problem with a Goose one year - had to cut it in half to get it in the oven, but Mum wanted Goose for Christmas so I got one. Foul thing, tasted horrible and never got another.

The whole shopping thing is bizarre, but I can see the not having to go out, allowing for "I'm gonna spend four days drunk" but come on... After Christmas dins I always fall asleep and don't really to eat for a good 48 hours (but I try darn it!) It is madness tonight I am going home and do no work related programming for the rest of this year or get out of bed (wish, but wont happen). Might have a geeky play with the Adrino's & Rasp PI's but that for fun, not profit!

Please, if you go to Edinburgh, tell people that it's England. We'll watch the beating you get on Youtube.

Personally, I wouldn't. The snow looks heavy on the highlands & I'd doubt it'll clear by boxing day. That said it should be pretty & Edinburgh will be OK . Also the M6 is under heavy rain on boxing day, if you are going that way then.

The highlands would not be advisable. Snow above 300m.
A lot of the snow gates have been closed over the hills.
check out the live eye views from the traffic cams at http://www.trafficscotland.org/[^] around the routes where you were planning to go. In particular up the A9 etc. You will see there is already heavy snow in some areas.
I got home from offshore this morning it was noticeably colder. Over the course of 3 hours the wind has picked right up and it is absolutely tipping it down with rain. It is currently 4'C in Aberdeen.
Not a very nice day.

I came back from Edinburgh yesterday. The weather was a bit poor then - and we were advised to travel before today.

hmm I have decided to cancel the trip but unfortunately easyjet will still be operating tomorrow and if I cancel the tickets (24hr cancelling policy), I will just get 40% of the total money (and that too in form of easyjet vouchers that I can avail in next 6 months only)as they will deduct £120 as a service charge.

You see, this is a typical problem with people developing products - they let the technology drive the product, rather than actually working out what the problem they are trying to solve is. Don't you think it would be better talking through what you are wanting to put together, rather then just jumping in and picking a language?
