Apologies everyone. It seems this news item was from 2018. As much as I'd like to blame CNet's use of AI to write articles, this was due to my own A(lack of)I. We'll try to do better in the future.

You might not get an RMA because you allegedly bent a socket pin. Oh, no, that is standard procedure, my bad.

First clue something was wrong was paragraph 3 being half a year off the current date:

I love NewEgg - would buy from there in a heartbeat instead of Amazon. That said and having been a customer for 20 years, it seems to me I should have an email from them....

Sorry about that. When I saw the news item, I was so miffed that I added it to the newsletter without double checking the date.
(But I agree, I'd still much rather deal with NewEgg than Amazon)

Reading disassembly is more like reading tracks than reading a book. Be vewy, vewy quiet. We're hunting eax

In my experience reading disassembly is a lot harder than writing assembly, even when starting from C code. Useful though to debug some issues, just this Friday I tracked a bug in the ROM supplied CRT library of our system on chip thanks to the disassembly window (bug = they left BKPT instruction in a friggin loop in the virtualization of printf , some of their code used printf and the controller looked unresponsive while it was simply doing what it was programmed to do).

A security researcher found a series of vulnerabilities with the Nexx brand of smart garage openers. He says he could remotely find garages to target, and then open them across the internet. Well, that is pretty smart, isn't it?
