Hey,
you might want to check to make sure that you have IE set as the default browser both for the whole OS and in IIS. I don't have a server right here to check, but I seem to recall that there is an option in IIS's preferences which asks you to tell it which broswer it should default to. In case that nothing is filled out you can simply type in 'iexplore.exe' and it should start working.
If you're going to be browsing dynamic pages you should also note that Windows Server 2003's IE security settings are extremely restricted and you should make it a point to review your LOCAL settings to make sure that you can correct display your pages.

Hi Tad,
It sounds like it is tied to the logged on user. Can you verify where the server is starting? It should start as a System Service, or perhaps the Run key from the registry...

I just installed IE7 on a Toshiba Tecra laptop running XP Pro because of a minor irritation with IE6. I assumed that IE7 would remove the problem - it didn't but now my laptop won't shutdown! I can hibernate it using the power button only, also when typing text into a text box it doesn't always accept the text 1st time like it doesn't receive the focus always.
Are these common problems with IE7? Are they related to IE7 at all? Anyone seen anything like this? Do I have to go back to IE6?

When you updated to IE7 did you do it via windows/microsoft update? If so did any other patches/drivers get installed?

I installed it directly from the Microsoft download page. On further investigation the power off problem has 'gone away' by starting up without the port replicator fitted and then shutting down without it fitted. Now I can shut down normally even when its fitted - some sort of installation issue with the port replicator perhaps?
Maybe someone can help with the original problem - occasionally I get corruption of some sort when a web page is displayed, the top of the page will be displayed normally then there will be a half displayed HTML tag such as

sounds like your http connection is breaking in mid transfer. Most likely its either a problem on the server or a network issue between your PC and the webserver. Unless it's part of your internal network there's probably not anything you can do about it.

if anyone has an implementation of "One-Way Tunnel" problem in any programming languages please tell me with my email : mohammad_razavi_d@yahoo.com
there is a one way tunnel in the middle of the road and cars in the road are moving in 2 directions ( north to south & south tho north )
when one car is in the tunnel others that are in the reverse direction must wait out of tunnel until the car in the tunnel moves out
this implementes with classes like Semaphore, Monitor & Lock Queues

How does one go about making their own extensions to Windows? I wanna be able to select a bunch of songs in an explorer window, right click on them and select a "Save to Mediaplayer playlist", and have it write a Wmp file right in the directory. That way, next time I come back, I can just hit that playlist and get my songs running, just quick and dirty and on-the-fly.
Can this be done or is it something Windows Media Player has to set up themselves?
Maybe it's been done already. If so, please let me know.

Basically multiple users logging into a remote desktop, and I'm looking for some suggestions of antivirus. I've been a fan of Grisoft AVG on desktops... they should have a server solution, which I'm about to look into. But any other ideas are welcome.

Ensure that whoever you choose, they explicitly state that they support a multi-user environment. Assuming products support terminal services is the fastest way to blow apart a TS environment.

The Windows 2003 resource kit contains a file named acctinfo.dll which you can register and it will add information to the user properties with a lot more information such as password expiry date, the date it was last set and the time of the last login.

Also, there is a treasure trove of fields in the directory.So you may want to take a look at what is available with ntutils and adsiedit. These are admin tools, but they allow you to see what is available.
Last Logon is also popular for auditing - finding user accounts with no activity which are not disabled. This indicates the user may have exited the organization, but still has an active account.

The most recently used code and data from all your running processes is loaded into the cache automatically. This is controlled by the CPU itself and not something that is accessible at the developer level.
