You guys at the Code Project may be overloaded already with the types of code you mostly collect, but may I suggest a new section for scripts?

I use mostly VBS+regular expressions, and I find very little in your archives. I mostly deal with text manipulation and small and fast custom utilities, not network management issues. I wonder if others would find the topic of interest.

That's outside the scope of The Code Project. This site centers on Visual Studio .NET and Windows developement.

What you're looking for would be found on MS TechNet[^]. You'll probably want to look in the Script Center at least.

seems like you have no idea about how to use the .NET in any application..

What I like to suggest you is that try to learn the .NET (maybe C#) first.... If you have some levels in using .NET, you can create any kind of application including "Financial Application"..

HowTo's on Selecting Data:

- How to create a webMethod that *selects* data from a DB
- How to Consume the webService and display the data using DataGrid

HowTo's on Inserting Data:

- How to create a webMethod that allows *insert* into a DBtable via webMethod
- How to consume the webService and create a form using the DetailsView to insert data

I cant find anything on this stuff and I am desperately in need of how to figure this out.

Working with data is pretty simple. Here's a sample called GetMyData in a web service class called MyWebClass. It retrieves a load of data from some data source and populates a generic collection before returning it to the client.

public List<CustomClass> GetMyData()
{
  List<CustomClass> custClass = new List<CustomClass>();
  // Do something to get the data from the database and put it into a data reader
  //...
  while (myDataReader.Read())
  {
    CustomClass item = new CustomClass();
    item.Id = myDataReader.GetInt32(0);
    item.Name = myDataReader.GetString(1);
    custClass.Add(item);
  }
  return custClass;
}

Compile your webservice and add a webreference to it in your calling code (we'll call it WebRef here). The signature for this method will look like this public CustomClass[] GetMyData(); because web services can't return generic lists, but they can return arrays of classes so .NET marshals your list class to an array of objects. In your client code, do this:

WebRef.MyWebClass cl = new WebRef.MyWebClass();
CustomClass[] items = cl.GetMyData();

I'm doing this off the top of my head, so I apologise if the syntax isn't 100% correct here. Note - if you want to use a generic list on the client side, you can do this:

List<CustomClass> list = new List<CustomClass>();
list.AddRange(cl.GetMyData());

I don't believe that anybody has written or released one yet. Of course, you could host the WinForms propertygrid in your WPF app. See here[^].

You've probably seen those apps where you type in your zip or city and it gives you back a list of cities that are within n number of miles. Can anyone point me to a database/code - something already cooked and is reasonably priced and alows programmatic control with .NET 2.0 and C#?

You can do this with MapInfo, Virtual Earth, Google Maps or any one of a number of GIS systems.

Hi..

An idea, for someone who knows how do this.

In VS Studio IDE, I want to select a block of code, and then right click to sort all the methods and properties, in that selection.

This would be really nice. Big Grin | :-D
