You should charge what you deem necessary for your products to keep you happy and running a smooth business. Yes you can price very high and someone else may design a similar product but that is the risk you run. I would raise your product pricing and then market your product more. The more sales the less you need to price high in order to keep running. Just a thought.

You certainly can raise the price. Don't worry, those who already have it at the lower price will value it more. Those who don't have it won't even know. Put a disclaimer on your site that you can raise the price at any time and have no control over other websites that might show it for less.

Hi Leslie! First of all, I would suggest doing a research on what others are charging for a similar product. This way you'd know the competition. You wouldn't want to lose potential customers because your product was priced too high. Someone may be really interested in your product and may even know yours is better than others, but the cost is stopping them from making a move. In the end, that would be a loss of sale for you.
I'm a member of another business forum. Some of the members there offer their products at varying rates. Maybe you can do the same. For example, for the first 25 people you can offer them the lowest rate you are willing to sell your product for. After 25 people, raise it up $10 or $20 more. And then after those 25 people, raise it up another $10 or $20. Etc...etc...
Or you can even just say the first 50 people to make a purchase will get it for $50. After 50 people have made a purchase, the rate will go up to $100 or whatever the full price may be. This way the first 50 people will think they're getting a 50% discount.
Sometimes people get pushed to make the purchase immediately in fear that if they wait any longer, they'll have to pay even more. And some people just love getting good deals.

I totally agree on pricing. The lower you price your service the less valued it will be by your customers. I can't speak for plugins, but this advice should apply to pretty much anything. Just raise the price in the next version. If you overprice it, nobody will buy and you'll know fairly quickly. Then you can always lower it until you find a happy medium.
I've tested this out in two industries... legal and web.
There is also a book with checking out (kind of obscure) by an author named Gary Cone called "Price Doesn't Count," in which Mr. Cone argues that if there are objections to a sale, price is rarely the issue.

1.i want to launch my own web company which interacts in field of social networking like facebook,fanbox, orkut etc. How could i do this? what kind of web server i need to manage the load of database processing?
2.How could i earn with this kind of web companies does my server pays me or i need to make some other ways ,pls define?
3.How do i promote the site to international level ,well i can manage it on national level i have contacts for advertisement any idea for that????
4.Which kind of web server i need prefer and what kind of future problems can be assumed on planning and launching of a web site?

I have deployed a Silverlight Based DB Schema editor. For me it's a bit hard to promote it (some sites has accepted it as product show case like Silverlight Show), any tip or advice? where to go? Where the are interested in publish news like this? (normally news sites have too much attitude to put the eye on an app developed by a dude like me  ).

Are there any developers here who do professional photography during weekends? If so do you mind sharing your thoughts on how you go about doing this. Some interesting bits would be how people perceive you as a photographer (considering you are a programmer in your day job). Whether you enjoy the weekends more than you enjoy writing code. Whether the extra income ever gets large enough to not only cover the costs of expensive SLR lenses and flash equipment, but also add to your savings. Thanks.

I used to be a wedding photog while in college for CS. I got out of it because it was just draining; school, work, plus that. If you are just starting you aren't going to make a lot of money; you have to invest in a lot of equipment plus you need to build a portfolio which means doing some stuff at cost or even lose money to get a good start.
After a couple years I was in high demand; I often did Friday and Saturday weddings back to back. It was good money at that point, but I had no life from May to September, so now I only take pics for myself!

What is the idea behind laminating lenses? I often see lens diagrams that show a convex lens snugged right up against a concave lens... why?

Actually neither; I used Minolta for my 35mm and now I am looking at investing in the Cannon D-60. For medium format I use a 4.5 x 6 Bronica w/view finder and speed grip. An extra film load box is also handy for medium format.

Ah okay. I didn't even know that Canon has a D60 too (Nikon has one).
I have a Nikon D80 as well as a D40X. My lens collection is kinda non-existent right now, I just have the 18-55 kit lens from the 40X and I also own a 50mm 1.8 prime. My next purchase will be an external flash, and after that I may also purchase a fast 17-50 F/2.8 Tamron lens. Until I get the flash and the fast Tamron, I don't dare to even attempt to assist someone.
But once I get some practice and get better at taking pics, I'd like to be a 2nd shooter at a wedding or some social event.
