It's not officially supported, I'm afraid. The 'Extra Dialling Commands' field is a field of the opaque structure pointed to by the lpbDeviceInfo parameter passed to RasSetEntryProperties which isn't officially documented. Strictly it can be whatever the TAPI (Telephony API) provider for this phonebook entry wants it to be.
For standard dial-up connections, though, the TAPI provider is the Universal Modem (Unimodem) provider. If you have access to the Windows CE shared source code, you discover that it's a DEVMINICFG structure. You'll have to see that source for the definition of the structure and how to use it.
The only supported way of editing this information programmatically is on Windows Mobile 2003 and later, using configuration XML with the CM_PPPEntries configuration service provider. However, normally WM2003 and later devices with a GSM/GPRS radio will ship with Phone Edition and offer a direct Cellular Radio TAPI Provider, which can be used with the CM_GPRSEntries configuration service provider.

Thanks Mike for the information about the DEVMINICFG structure under the TAPI, at least now I have a starting point to check into!

hi sir,
I am developing a windows application in C# where i have a small part to send sms to the number specified. i went through the article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555578.
(SMS services in ASP.NET Mobile Web Application)
and i used the webservice which you have mentioned here. i am not developing a mobile asp.net application but a normal windows application in C# 2005.
i added the webreference to the webservice and used the code. when i run the application,
however i get a error saying that a firewall is not allowing to estabilish remote connections and that a exception is set. i removed all exceptions and run the program again.
i still get the same problem.
Can you please suggest me any ideas on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am trying to get a sampleclient application for wince working. When running the app on the pocket pc the message is that it can not find a certain certificate file; however, even after putting the the certificate file in the same directory as the sampleclient app it still produces the same message.
How about changing the source (sampleclient.c file) to have a preprocessor command which outputs the current directory for running the app? Maybe the app runs from some other directory not so obvious. Also, what is the method of getting the current directory?
Thanks,
Pooyan

Hi Pooyan,
There is no current directory in WinCE. All file names must be specified from root: \<path>\<filename> .

I must write string in a file in a cycle and must be fastest possible!
I use C# ...
Thanks a lot.

Hey all,
I'm porting a small smartphone application to Windows Mobile 5/6. I am a bit stumped by the following:
The app consists of a small graphical rectangle which is always on top - basically a status bar. It should be painted on top of whatever else the win mobile os does. Ie. the win mobile OS works as usual with paint, input handling etc in everything it does, only with this custom graphical element overlay always painted on top of part of the screen.
Is there an elegant way of doing this?
(bonus points if it's possible to implement in managed / C# code)
Best regards,
Thomas Kjeldahl Nilsson, Oslo

Hallo. I am having the following problem;
i want to move into a .txt file, e.g move by 3 characters from line 1,position 1 to line 1,position 10.
I am using StreamWriter but it does not support something like move or seek method to move into the file.
What i am trying to do exactly is writing a name into first line and then go into position 25 of the same line and writing the surname.Same for the following lines. Any ideas how to move the cursor?
Thank you in advance for any help given.

Hi All,
how are you doing there? Must be fine. I am getting a terrible stack over flow exception error in my PDA application. And I simply can't under stand why this is happening? Currently I am working on a project where the user has to inspect a vehicle for different failures.
The flow is like this. There is a form named Select Inspection where the user selects the vehicle id and clicks on Inspection. Then It will go to the next screen where the user presses start inspection. After clicking on that the next form will display a list of categories such as cab test, brake test, emission test etc and all these values comes from the database and buttons are created according to the category. When the user clicks on a particular category different question will come on the screen under that category. It will also come from the database and the buttons are created at runtime. Then when the user clicks on a particular question in the next screen he has to pass or fail the question. Whatever button the user clicks, it then again comes back to the questions form and a tick or cross mark is displayed according to pass or fail. After answering all the question the user has to click on pass button at the bottom of the question screen. Then it will go back to the category screen and an associated image will be displayed on the right side of the category. All these buttons and pictures are created at run time. All these are working well for 7 question ...But when I click on the 8th question it is showing the stack over flow exception. I am here also giving mu code snippet.

Hi,
I'm new to mobile development. I was wondering if it were possible to access the phone functions on a Windows Mobile 2003. I was thinking more of an application which is able to obtain the cell id, bcch etc, like the parameters available in a Satgem phone. Which programming language would be able to obtain these parameters if possible? I am learning C# currently, would it be possible to do this through the APIs?
Thank you.

Hello everyone,
I am building a DLL using embedded VC 4. There is a .exp file generated into the same folder of the output DLL file.
I am wondering what is the usage of this file? How to control embedded VC not to generate this file?
thanks in advance,
George

Hello everyone,
I am building a DLL using embedded VC 4. When building a DLL (written in C) for platform MIPSFPU, there is a strange link error.
fatal error LNK1112: module machine type 'MIPS' conflicts with target machine type 'MIPSFPU'
Here is the link option I am using. I am wondering what is wrong with the settings?
commctrl.lib coredll.lib /nologo /base:"0x00100000" /stack:0x10000,0x1000 /entry:"_DllMainCRTStartup" /dll /incremental:yes /pdb:"MIPSIVRel/recover.pdb" /debug /nodefaultlib:"$(CENoDefaultLib)" /out:"MIPSIVRel/recover.dll" /implib:"MIPSIVRel/recover.lib" /subsystem:$(CESubsystem) /MACHINE:MIPSFPU
thanks in advance,
George

Hi,
I've not done any mobile coding before so am unsure how to do this. Basically, I'm writing a program in C# and running it in VS2005 under the emulator.
When the emulator shows up, it doesn't display my form I've created, it waits around 1min and then it suddenly appears. I want to make it so it displays instantly, or if anyone knows how to do this which would be a much better way, is to add it to the "Programs" list on the smart device, since i will need to deploy it onto a device and not use the emulator when the project is completed.
Any ideas, like i said, I've only been playing around figuring out how to do the basics, e.g: display something!
Regards,
Gareth.

don't worry gare,
when you run your application,it takes less time.you can feel this thing by running other program of real device & your program. Both takes approx same time.but within your application if your data loading time is too much then you can try following statement.
Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
above statement change your default cursor to wait cursor.
and after loading data, change your wait cursor to default cursor using following statement
Cursor.Current = Cursors.Default
hope this helps

Hi Rupesh,
I already know how to change the cursor so no, it doesn't really answer my question. Sorry.
The problem is, i don't have any control on loading the program, it just appears, also if i click close, i cant re-open it. Thats why i asked if anyone knew how to add it to the "Programs" list or another method.
Regards,
Gareth.

The startup time might be an emulator issue which goes away when deployed on the actual device. First the emulator has to load and start, then it needs to run your application. Even running on the actual device, there is a start-up time to sync up with the IDE environment when connected. Just something you live with.
The program is likely defaulted to download into the root directory on the emulator/device.
You can copy a shortcut to your application into the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder.
You can do this automatically by using a CAB file to install your application on the target device. See linky.
