This is the scenario..
Basically I have a page that has a custom control with a button
that opens a new page (popup window). During the closing of this popup, I want DropDownList in parent page to refresh so that it has updated data by making a new call to the database.
The new page that is opened from the button in custom control is designed to add a new record to the database and the calling control should then automatically pull that new record.
I have to achieve this without parent form posting back, coz this would fire all validators..
Is that possible somehow?

I have to ask when we upload a video in youtube it is converted in flv format and then played by flv player.
I too preparing a site like youtube with has least fuctionality as in youtube, my question is
When i have to convert the video in flv format ,will it happen when a user uploading a video and at that time i convert it in flv format and save,that means uploading and converting it in flv format should be done simultaneously.
or
whether, first i upload the video in any format and save in server and later convert it into the flv format.

|
|
|
|
I would queue any files up for conversion on the server and have a separate process to do the actual conversion, allowing you to return straight back to the user. You don't want the user's browser 'locked' whilst you are converting.

Hi,
There are many Freeze GridView Header solutions available but all that I found only worked for vertical scrollbar in GridView. But my Grid has around 35-40 columns and I want a horizontal scrollbar as well; while retaining the Freeze Header functionality.. any ideas??

If you are moving the horizontal scrollbar then you don't need to do anything to header because moving X position doesn't affect to Y position.

I tried to implement SSL on my local IIS. To do that I open the directory security tab in the site properties. But the "Server Certificate" button is disabled. Please let me know how to enable it. I am using IIS 5.1
Thanks,
Hogan

- Right-click on "Default Web Site" in IIS. (Not on sub-directories )
- Go to "Directory Security" (You will see "Server Certificate").
Hope it helps.

On RowDataBound event of gridview, find the hyperlink button and add Onclick attributes there.

thnks Navneeth,that still not workd., i ve found alternate way for that
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="View Resume">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Hyperlink Text="View" ID="Hyperlink2" NavigateUrl=<%#"javascript:my_window=window.open('ResumeDetails.aspx?cand_id=" + DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"cand_id").ToString() + "&rrf_id=" + DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"rrf_id").ToString() + "','my_window','toolbar=no, location=no, titlebar=no, linkbar=no, directories=no, status=yes, menubar=no, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes, width=800, height=600, copyhistory=no');my_window.focus()" %> Runat="Server">
</asp:Hyperlink>
</ItemTemplate>
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" />
</asp:TemplateField>

First you need an Itemplate in the GridView with Hyperlink as one of the required columns. I think you already have that. Then implement the row data bound event as below:
protected void GridView_RowDataBound ( object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e )
{
LinkButton lnkBut = new LinkButton();
HyperLink hlnk = new HyperLink();
if ( (ListItemType)e.Row.RowType == ListItemType.Item ||
(ListItemType)e.Row.RowType == ListItemType.AlternatingItem )
{
hlnk = (HyperLink)( e.Row.FindControl("HyperLink1") );
string strPathFromDB = hlnk.Text; //NOTE: OR this can be a predetermined path hard-coded here if you wish to have the same path for all rows. You can add your query string after the path.
hlnk.NavigateUrl = String.Format("{0}", strPathFromDB.Replace("\\", "/"));
hlnk.Target = "_blank";
ALTERNATE WAY: Attach javascript to Hyperlink.
url = "DocumentLinkControl.aspx?TradeDate=" + tradeDate + "&CounterParty=" + counterParty
lnkBut.Attributes.Add("onclick", "window.open('" + url + "',null,'left=400, top=50, height=800, width= 650, status=no, resizable= no, scrollbars= yes, toolbar= no,location= no, menubar= no');");
}
}
Let me know if this didnt work..

Hi all,
I have asp page. In that I want to call a aspx page in the background.That called aspx pages will send and receive
mail in the background.The calling of the aspx pages should be hidden from the user.Is it possible
Thanks
Dana

You could hide the other page in an iframe, but overall, it sounds like your design is a mess. There are better ways of doing this sort of stuff, what's the point of a page you can't see that sends and recieves mail ( how ? To who ? ) only when the user is on another page and cannot see that it's even there.

I have to pass user name and password for the LDAP authentication but during this process password is getting saved into the local machine RAM and which can be retrived later... So how I can use MD5 hash code for preventing this.
|
|
|
|
|
How do other programs access your RAM ?
The way an MD5 hash works is destructive, if you have an MD5, you cannot use it to get your original password back. They are used sometimes to store passwords, so the password sent is an MD5 hash of what is typed, and the MD5 hash is what is stored. The main idea here is that the actual password is not in the DB and in theory, people are not likely to work it out from the MD5. MD5 is not all that secure, nowadays.

I agree, and I don't even bother treaching MD5 in my class. I stick to SHA-256 or better.
