I need a simple bluetooth code for several mobile device platforms (open source?) which informs users (audibly) when connections are broken or out of range for gaming purposes. I am a novice programmer.

Where can I go or how do I do this?

That won't be easy. For example, on a Windows Mobile device the needed code would depend on what Bluetooth stack the OEM has made. Apple keeps the details of the protocol behind their device-to-device communication abstracted away. If you want cross platform communication you will need to use web communication.
