I recently read an article here on code project about how Swift might entice .NET developers. There were numerous comments asking why use Swift when there is Xamarin. Well, one reason might be that unless you want to use the free, limited version of Xamarin studio, you will have to spend at least 25/mo. so, my question is this:

Is there a way to do Xamarin development without limitations or licensing fees (I'm not concerned about deployment, just development and debugging)?

Swift is free but iMac and MacBook are not. You may have to upgrade OSX to install a new XCode version. And In a 3 year old Mac, you may not be able to install a latest version of OSX. Ultimately these all are business and business is for making profit and not for helping the people.

install Xcode/Swift -> Need latest OSX -> To install Latest OSX -> you need a latest harware -> Apple hardware is very expensive -> But you have to buy it anyway -> that is called "business".

Good points, a 5. Nevertheless, the whole idea to compare Swift with Xamarin (CLR implementation) looks utterly incorrect. In what situations they even can become alternatives to consider?
Now, Xamarin is really expensive, effectively. (No more comparison, I just want to point it out.) I would wait for Visual Studio 2015. Look what it promises...
