Maybe you don't have sufficient university culture. At my time, we took the most ideas from fellow students of different specialties as we communicated a lot on different scientific topics and exchanged a lot of interesting ideas, discussed out problems, and a lot more. Anyway, the education in neighboring field is a key here. You should either have considerable education in biology and health sciences yourself, or establish good creative contacts with specialists.

You really need to get well familiar with those people and communicate with then a lot, exchange ideas. The most failures of technology and science these days are related to the simple fact: people from different fields of science and technology, and culture in general, are two much isolated from each other, way too much specialized. Such people don't see horizons, which are impossible to see without learning a lot about field of knowledge of your neighbors. In understand, this is not easy to get real knowledge in the field you never touched before. But medical imaging and related AI (image recognition is particular) is one of the applications of modern AI. To work in this field, you need to get into the application-field culture and related fields of science and technology (modern medicine becomes more and more of a kind of technology) as much as possible.

You see, I can address some of my own knowledge of biology, everything I learned since high school and later due to my deep interest in related fields, being totally unprofessional in the field formally. I can talk with some of my friends and even with my son, I can read some literature, with great difficulty though. And you should get to something like that. You need to go out of your computer shell and look at outside fields of knowledge.
