WPF What type of Database is suitable for an project.

Hi, I'm new in WPF and may I ask that which database type that should consider by me?
What should I choose between the file extension of .mdf and .sdf?

I understand that .mdf need the existing of SQl Server to operate and .sdf just can directly run in the local. If my assumption correct? If not can you all correct me. Any replay is welcome. Thank you for spending time to read.
