Translated into a different science, your question looks like this:

Hallo, I'm a mechanics student and I want to make my own car and drive it, but I don't know how to start. I can use a scissor and a hammer: what can I do?

I hope you'll understand how silly your question is...

Before thinking to a soft-phone, just learn programming!
Learn what algorithms are, learn about how programming langages can express them, learn about the environment (operating system API) they run into, Learn about the basics of the collateral sciences (communication protocols etc.)

Then, just start thinking what you're looking for.

We think that people who decide their graduation project on what sounds cool and then rely on random strangers to do it for them, instead of choosing something based on the things they know how to do, probably deserve to fail.
