Chat interface in a website - A mapping between many to many in ASP.NET

I am building a web application. I need to provide an interface for chat for all those people who have logged in . That is , in the chat interface the people who have been logged in will be detected as online and people can chat with one or many people. How to achieve this?

If I were you I'd look up more information on using SignalR in an ASP.NET application.
