What are some good books to learn ASP.NET 4.0 for someone with 4-5 months of experience.

I have completed my 3 yrs college (BCA). Have about 3 months of working experience. I know just enough to make a college project on my own, i am familiar with basic control i made a project which was a very basic social networking site ( project was on asp.net 4.0 and sql server c#). Involving Nested GridView for creating wall similar to facebook(nested comments) along with like dislike functionality. Project also included things such as photo album and photo gallery, student attendance management etc . All basic nothing top notch. ( probably you have a better idea about where i stand.) I wanted to know what is the best book which i need at the moment? I havent read any. Feel free to ask me some question if you want to figure out how much i know. I could have googled this question but i thought asking it in a forum like this where there are many experienced developers and where i can interact would give me better answers. Thanks :)

Books? Why? This would be enough: http://www.asp.net/[^].

Don't get me wrong: if you prefer reading a book, it can help you a lot. Let's see if other members recommend you some.

This is not the main thing. The main thing is prerequisites: you should know the language and basics of the .NET platform very well, especially OOP. And, the most painful point: too many beginners have no idea how Web and HTTP work. You need to understand it very well; what happens on client and server side, how HTTP request and HTTP response, HTTP headers, sessions work, etc.

I never used asp.net for learning anything, whenever i had some problem i googled it of used stackoverflow or code project. Now that it has been suggested by two of you i will check it out. It's just that reading a lot of text (which may or may not includes code) can be irritating when its on the monitor. And that is why i was wondering if i should buy a book.

I understand your concern and admitted that reading a book can be good for you.
However, I must note: if you find reading from screen irritating, you are in a big trouble. If you don't read a lot from the screen, books cannot be a full substitute of it. In particular, you hardly can avoid reading from the said site + microsoft.com, no matter how much else do you read. There days, the volume of information provided in books in insufficient, even if the absolute volume can be more.

I suggest you follow my advice, no matter if you have some good books or not. And I think you can accept my answer formally (green button).
