I actually have a project in mind, that is, why can't a machine program
itself? Seems to me something happend between 0's & 1's and whats going on today. There is software that claims to design web pages automatically. Being the absolute beginner that I am (still have not learned everything that Windows can do) it looks pretty daunting.

The end result being direct text (in english) for what you want to do; no code, no programming. The interaction between you and the machine would be direct. It is my aim to create something like this, but all the beginner programs I've seen are are too automatic (like python-scratch.) I don't want to make money, just want to do this one thing for myself. Ridiculous isn't it?

Quick Answers isn't really the place for musings such as this. However, the Lounge is, so long as you don't post programming questions there. And I too have had similar "fantasies" about creating an AI capable of programming. Keep dreaming, and you may one day achieve what so many before you have yet to achieve. Just make sure to patent it before you show anybody; such a technology would put all of us programmers out of work, including yourself.

There have been languages that attempt 'plain english' programming. The core issue is, plain english is too nuanced, for a start. Any system that requires no programming, will simply have plumbing behind the scenes to hook up what looks like a drag and drop system. These exist, but they are plainly limited, and will be, probably forever.

Did you find all the existing messages in the lounge? Only the subject lines are shown... by clicking them, you expand them. Search the page for "New Message" and you'll find the link to add a new message.

Back in my youth (nearly 30 years ago), there was a piece of software called 'The Last One' because it was supposed to be the last software you ever needed to buy.

It wrote BASIC code for you and was itself written in BASIC. I never used it myself, but the company I worked for supplied it with a CP/M machine to a customer about 5 years after that, and I spoke to the developer to enable it to work with the BASIC on that machine.
