Criteria to select BindingList vs ObservableCollection

Does someone know how what are the criterias to prefer BindingList vs ObservableCollection in a MVVM implementation with WPF? Almost all exemples in MVVM go with Observable collection (at least is my perception), does someone know why?
I googled this question but I did not find a clear answer.
