Hello all...
My request may sound a bit strange...
I'm in search of someone that can explain a case I'm experiencing -
We have servers here ( our backbone ) and swithches connected to this backbone;
We had this morning a packet storm and the network went down -
The reason : a TP cable connected between 2 switches making a loop ( solved )
Our server farm is in a secured place and nobody can get in without us knowing.
I got into this place this morning ( 8:11 ) to check servers were running OK -
( out before 8:20 ) and back to my office, reading mails, logs and the like.
All of a sudden, the network went down ( say between 8:45 and 9:15 because I went away for some other business ) -
My network admin wasn't long to spot the culprit: loop cable, and here is the big trouble for me :
Logs they say I'm the only person entering the server room this day -
Hence I ( and only I ) can say this cable was in place BEFORE this morning -
How the hell is it possible ? ( since this cable when fitted back kills the network in no time )
I'm in search of a bad network configuration that is healthy enough to pass through tests when there are few persons at the office and that collapses down when desktops they connect...with this very cable already in place -
Please, help ! I have to understand ( despite my colleagues they say they know I'm not guilty ) because evidences just shout out that I'm the only one - And being out of myself ( sic ) I'd say I'm guilty because there is no other way...
So...What would make a network quite healthy but on the edge to dive into hell when people get back from holidays ?
My network admin says no matter the workstations, a loop will drive to packet storm within a couple of seconds...
Any idea ?...I feel like the innocent in jail that can prove nothing...
