grid view problem in asp.net

i have a grid view in through that i am accepting user data using footer row .in footer row there are text boxes for data entry for each column .Now to accept data through footer row i have to disable viewstate of the grid view (because without disabling its showing null) .Now i have a button submit after pressing it data should get save in db and footer row should be made invisble .But i am not able to set it to false in code .is it because i have set view state to false if so plz tell me wt should i do
