I am a fan of The Code Project, and I see "unedited" in many of the articles. Do you pay a fee to editors? How does one become an editor?
Thanks,

No, it's free. (I never heard about such things. Even when I published in a commercial journal, I received (pretty good) author's honorarium and did not pay anything; some magazines charge publication fee, but that's different.)

To ask your last question, go to CodeProject main menu => "Help!" => "Post a Question".

You earn the right to be an editor. When your reputation points reach certain levels (I don't know the exact values) you will magically find that you have an "Improve Question" link here in the Q&A's, and then when you reach other thresholds you can edit other submissions as well.

The "fee" you pay is spending a ton of time helping people out around the boards and being helpful in article comments. You have to earn a reputation around here to become an editor. There is no monetary fee to pay and you don't go bugging people for it. If you're good enough, they'll contact you, not the other way around.

There's a rather convoluted secret handshake to learn... and a chant.

There are a few staff editors - these folks actually work for Code Project. There are also several members here with varying levels of editing rights on the site (including articles, blogs, tips etc.). These are voluntary contributors.
