Your question will end in endless loop.
I was faced with the same question before. i googled all the way i want to get satisfied answer. nope. basically you must choose and go serious for it.

i choose C#. even though i choose it, it doesn't mean that java is bad or whatever. i choose it after too many googling and get information overloaded where at the end there are always pros and cons for both of them.

for me i hope by serious in C# maybe if by any case i was forced to go to java then i "hope" there is not a lot of effort to do.

if one day java becoming very popular then fine by me, if C# becoming very popular then good for me.

learning the language for me just a 3-6 months time investments. this is due to the nature that i am a developer.

so if you invest in one language today and be serious in it let say for 1-2 years then it will serve you very well when you want to learn other language. because your investment is not in the language itself, but in the programming/concept.

sorry i didn't give you the pros and cons of C and java. you can find that a lot in google.
