Do not post the same content in both windows ("What i have tried")!

If you are installing these for learning or even creating some projects of your own, then why don't you use the latest versions?
The best thing is, Visual Studio 2015 community edition and SQL Server 2016 developer edition are freely available.
1. Visual Studio 2015 Community

2. SQL Server 2016 Developer

Your Windows 10 is just the best OS version for these development tools.

Hope, it helps :)

You have to download newer version of MS Visual Studio and SQL Server.

Thank you.
I have used SQL Server 2008 R2 and 2012 SP1 with Win10 x64, and VS 2010, 2013, and 2015 as well - all of them have worked fine for me.

I'd suggest that you install SQL first, then Visual Studio - VS tries to install it's own version which can cause problems with later installs of SQL. It's happy to use an already installed version of SQL though.

Hmmm... I suspect that you've installed MS SQL Server on Win7/8 and then OS has been upgraded to Win10. In that case MS SQL server is working as well. As MSDN states, you can't install MS SQL Server 2008 on Win10.
Please, take a look at my answer.

That's entirely possible - my first Win10 was the upgrade and it's pretty likely that I didn't upgrade SQL till later. (I needed to maintain compatibility with my web hosting service so I didn't move to 2012 until quite late)

No, i didn't upgrade my OS. I installed a new fresh windows 10 64 bit.

My comment was dedicated to OriginalGriff. We understand that you cannot install MS SQL Server 2008 on new, clean Win10.
