I actual disagree with that. I have downvoted answers such as "make the textbox public in order to share it between two forms" - with appropriate comments. I feel that the downvote emphasises to the OP that this is a spectacularly stupid idea, and hopeful discourages the "professional" who made the suggestion from doing it again. Just upvotes, or no votes, does not do that, unless you are quite abusive to the "professional" - which is unfair too.
Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together.

Unfortunately, for every reasonable use of a downvote - such as the one you described - there are many, many, many more downvotes by immature people people who leave no feedback and only want to cause mischief. CP cannot screen out these idiots, so the best solution is to take their toys away. Whatever positive benefit that downvoting provides is not worth driving away novice members who don't understand that it's not the site that is speaking, but only a few malicious members.

I realize that downvoting posts which one doesn't like yields a certain perverse pleasure, as if one was administering the lash of justice to an ignoramus. But don't you think we - the CP community - can do better? Don't you think the OP deserves better than to be told "Ignore it"? I do, and I would like to see the problem eliminated. Especially - as in this case - where downvoting causes so many problems, and has no positive effect (except the one I mentioned in the first sentence).
But I would like to hear from you, how your downvotes have corrected a wayward programmer leaning toward bad logic and nasty syntax. Which of your downvotes has steered a potential miscreant away from the path of goto's? How many reformed programmers have emailed to thank you for the corrective downvote which turned their lives around? I'm sure you won't bother to look, because we both know there have been none. Such is the legacy of downvoting - bitterness, anger, resentment, and confusion. Nothing positive, only negative.
Downvoting doesn't belong in this community.

It's not a case of not bother: with 5336 messages to my name, and 818 Q&A answers, and 493 comments I don't have the time! I would have to examine each one, and there is no way I can justify that kind of activity just to prove a point!

Very interesting, Hans. I would tweak your idea a bit. Leave the current voting system in place but remove the negative votes, say 1-vote = 0. This way one can show disagreement with some grossly wrong answer while keeping univoters in check. All 1-vote means is, I disagree with you. I am sure this will bring some harmony
a) it will keep the tool for univoters
b) the damage inflicted by univoters is elliminated
c) gives members a voice for disagreement with particular view/opinion
thus this will bring about your idea without completely getting rid of downvoting.

Unfortunately, I cannot agree with your suggestion. All it would do is shift the dreaded 1 vote to a dreaded 2 vote. To completely eradicate this problem and all its consequences, we need to eliminate everything except a single up-vote.

You will have to choice among below two when these things happens.
1) Either leave all the matter of downvote and go away by understanding long term benefit of it, In other word don't discuss it anywhere otherwise downvoter will love to annoy you.
2)Share it over here and some humble people who really believe in repetition point emphasize really will upvote you, That way you will annoy the downvoter.

While answering one of the question in Q&A today, I came across this article: Rating Demystified: Ajax Way, Amazon Way*[^]
It looked good and I wanted to vote for it. I found the article was not completely visible. Bottom half was cut-off and the voting-bar + message forum is missing. Looks like some HTML issue in it. Can someone look into it?

Would it be okay if I put your MVP image on my developer portfolio website? And if so, do you have any requirements for how I use it (e.g., only link back to CP or host it on my website, don't resize it, etc.)? I'm thinking of adding an "awards and education" section to my site and showing the CP MVP image would be of great use to me.

You're right, we need some terms of use.
For now stick to the rule: if you're an MVP you're welcome to use the CodePRoject MVP logo to identify yourself as a CodeProject MVP for the year that you are MVP. The logo cannot be used to endorse any service or product other than the MVP competition and its winners. These terms are subject to change, and maybe also to an actual lawyer reviewing them.
I reckon that covers it.
