The weird colouring is because of the weird (ie non-) encoding of the brackets is confusing the colouriser. I'll make a note to look into that.
Sorry - dug in deeper and it's simply because in C++ we colourise < and >, but not in C#. The reason the < gets colourised is because we HTML encode that for those who forget to, but we don't touch the > because browsers are good at handling them.
I'll change my note to make this more consistent.

OK, sounds good.
However the main question was: is the "we accept HTML look-alikes and will handle them properly (i.e. escape them), so you don't need to escape generics any more inside PRE blocks" rule a given now?

Just out of curiosity: Are you building a library of code fragments you are planning to post?

I've got a ton of rubble under the desk if anyone wants those kind of code fragments.
Ooh - you mean non-broken, things-that-work type fragments...

you keep code fragments in a ton? I prefer a disk, in my experience search works better on disk-based material.

It's more "We try and do our best to handle improperly encoded < entities". This is in the code and I've no plans to remove it.

I can live with that; I would however prefer a more predictable behavior, maybe a simple whitelist containing the few valid HTML tags you are recognizing and letting through, assuming everything else gets escaped.
Said whitelist could then be added to the "Using PRE tags" T/T for all to read.

Something seems to be a miss with the reputation points scoring
I noticed yesterday this user had ~99k but today he has jumped to about ~127k
http://www.codeproject.com/script/Membership/View.aspx?mid=456184[^]
I'm not disparaging this user, it just seems the point calculations are out of whack. The user only has 16 messages and 8 articles, which are old, not really that great and, in at least one case, completely plagiarized, however, he has a higher score than seven of the current MVPs and is surrounded by users with thousands of messages and Q&A answers.

Looks like the recalc involving legacy downloads may be underway.

I doubt that. The recalc might have some bugs, I trust they will be quite subtle, in order to elicit the right amount of discussions in several forums. And it isn't due until last weekend, this weekend, some weekend in the near future.

Yes - there was a bug we've fixed but not yet uploaded. The entire rep points will be recalculated this weekend, cross fingers.

This[^] member has a rep graph not really matching the rep numbers. I'd guess the graph is closer to the truth.

I believe that this[^] article was in a composing state, but it's been removed due to it being reported by users. If an article is still in a composing state, surely you shouldn't be able to remove it.
The author asked for Mentor help last night, and now the article has been removed. This isn't exactly an incentive for people to seek help. Would it not be possible to mark an article so that it's in the Mentor status? Theoretically, you could have it so that once an author is going through the mentor process then it is only visible to mentors, the CP staff and the original author. This way, it's kept out of the way so that others don't have to waste time reading it, and mentors don't find their time being wasted offering advice on articles that get blitzed.
