Quick Answers is specifically to get answers to well-posed questions, and the forums are for having a good back-and-forth about stuff that doesn't always have a simple answer.
Turth be told I don't like having both systems running in parallel and would like to combine them.
How woul you like to see them work?

*hic* oh bugger now I've got the hiccoughs.
It may be lack of imagination on my part but the current forum design suits the way I like to work, lots of easily accessible information about a focused subject. There is no back and forth between the list and the details.
Possibly add the answered options to the forum messages, highlighting the response that is flagged.

Please note that in my second response to the thread linked to, by "rFresh:" I commented:
"Just to be clear, my opinion that the type of specific questions you are asking on this Forum (now) are best served in Q&A, are just my opinion, and I do not represent, or speak for, CP in any way.
The general idea is that forums like this one are meant to be for discussion of broader issues in using C# ... but that's my interpretation."
You might also note the extreme care I took in both my replies to "rFresh" to (try and) function as a "friendly educator," and the fact that "rFresh" thanked me for my comments.
My experience here, in over eleven years, is that the C# language forum used to be a place for some pretty high-level discussions of C# language issues, with a lot of interaction, but, in the last couple of years, the last year, in particular, the kinds of specific questions that used to be posted in the Q&A C# forum (and the worst kind of "gimme" questions, and questions which demonstrate the OP has not even bothered to do the simplest search of CodeProject) have now over-run the C# language forum.
I have expressed my opinions, here, on this forum, before, that the original CP design, as I understand it, for having separate language-specific Q&A forums and Discussion forums, is to enable two very different kinds of facilities, to meet the distinct needs of two separate types of users, is a good idea ... in theory.
In practice, I suspect the task of keeping the "general" forums "general," is onerous (I, and I think many other people, are reluctant to report any message we don't see as an extreme violation of CP's guidelines, and culture), and then someone on CP staff has got to play "judge" if there are some reports, but not enough for auto-removal ? Who's got time for that ?
I see a great advantage for most users with specific questions in the Q&A forum, and those who choose to respond with "solutions," given Q&A's multi-level commenting facilities, its rating facilities, and the fact it offers the OP a chance to vote on which answer they think is "best," as well as up-vote any answer they think is good.
But, I'd be fine, if Chris, as he expresses, here on this thread, decides to merge the two systems.
If the two systems remain separate, and things keep going the way they are (as I perceive them), I'd agree with Mycroft that it wouldn't "hurt" to add the "Op chooses the best" option.
But, whether it would add anything to the language specific forums: I'm not sure. Is it possible that might "stimulate" the kind of "rep-machine behavior" now perpetrated in Q&A by certain individuals, who will post long-winded answers to any questions asked that are often ... I'll spare you the details
If you are going to add "OP picks winner," why not add the commenting system that Q&A has ? And, then, if both facilities have identical functionality: well, why not combine them ?
For myself, every time I respond to a C# language forum post with suggestions to search CP, and maybe include a link to a CP article that obviously addresses the user's question: I don't really feel like I deserve ten reputation points for that.
For myself, I really like the idea of having a forum where: if I ask a well thought-out question, expressed in detailed fashion ... perhaps something like: "what are the real advantages of enabling interaction between Forms in Windows Forms, using Interfaces in C#, rather than 'exposing public properties,' or 'injecting object references' ?:" I just might get a thoughtful answer from the likes of Harold Aptroot, Pete O'Hanlon, Richard MacCutchan, and other people I regard as mentors on CP, in a zone somewhat "free" of the "ambiance" (mosh-pit ?) that Q&A is now
But, there's no real "complaint" being expressed here. Times change, what's needed: changes, and I continue to enjoy using, participating in, CP ! 10 million+ geeks can't be wrong

I'm writing an article and in the 'pre' blocks the cursor seems to arbitrarily jump to different parts of the pre block, sometimes the end, sometimes the beginning. This is making edits hard!

It's Chrome actually - I don't know if it's related, but since the last time I used the editor also if I paste some text from a pre section into a new paragraph, all of the text except the last line is copied properly - the last line gets formatted as paragraph text but with span styling to make it monospaced fonts.
Trying to think of anything else that might help... I've got no funny extensions on Chrome, was using the editor in the WSIWYG mode. Typically I create a code block via the menu, then right click and use 'paste as plain text'. In the past this has never caused problems, but it's actually been about 2 months since I've written an article. It was changing cursor pos about on average once or twice per code block I was working on.
Has anyone else had any similar issues? I can try and come up with a more detailed repro if that helps.

He's saying that when people write enough articles to create a new section for them, that section will be written.
Do you have an srticle you wish to contribute on the subject? Do you know any articles here that should be in your new section?
If not, then it will be a very empty and sad looking page.

I suggest that new members be limited to X number of posts within the first day of their membership. This might prevent people from signing up just to post 10 or 20 spam messages.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

I second this. Yesterday late night, I have reported those 6 spam messages & went to sleep(I thought he stopped). And morning I saw more than bunch of messages from him.
When OP(spammer) & his messages got reported, Admins should restrict him to post new messages.

Then they will sign up, wait a day, and then spam.
I think that a member's posting privileges should be restricted if N posts they have made (where N is some arbitrary number) are reported as spam or abusive within a certain time period. That would not completely prevent spam, but it would prevent a lot of it from being posted.
Other factors that could be considered are the age of the account and the member's reputation (i.e. Lots of rep == restriction-free)

Very strange: today I have not reported an objection to any post on CP. And, I have not bookmarked anything.
But, my rep detail is showing 4 report objects, and one BookMark, all made at the same time: 7:21 PM GMT +07.
These "phantom actions" do have a common "scene of the crime:" they have "happened" while I have had the same thread on Q&A [^] open for some time, because I am in the process of replying, in detail, to a response from the OP to a detailed query I made as a comment on the OP, and I am going back-and-forth between trying things out in Visual Studio, and studying the OP's question, and response, as I write my response.
I cannot ever imagine reporting a solution posted by OriginalGriff, unless one of the report options was titled something like: "Cosmic Singularity of Excellence"
Please, undo these strange actions.
thanks, Bill

I've seen many old questions re-activated because spammers post new answers to old questions. By old I mean 1 or 2 years old but the same could be applied to questions which are 2 months old. IMHO, if no new answers are allowed, then that should avoid spamming to such questions and the task of each moderator to remove users & comments. thanks,

There are legit reasons for new answers.
-Say you searched for a topic and found a one-year old question.
-You follow the steps provided by the solution. But it didn't work for you
-You find the solution yourself based on the steps you found in this question
-You add your own solution if someone else might have the same issue as you did.

I disagree. StackOverFlow does have a feature where a question can be "frozen" for further response to prevent "me too" answers, and such, but StackOverFlow operates by "committee" in cases like that, and CP, imho, operates with very different principles.
There may well be a time when someone wants to post a much better, or more efficient, solution, or answer than those already present.
Also, we can report answers.
However, where I think I am in agreement with you would be that I think there should be some other options in the 'report drop-down. One of those might be "duplicate answer."
But then, there's a cost to CP: somebody has to evaluate what may be hard-to-distinguish differences between one answer and a new one ... that means someone has to take some time, really study, perhaps, both solutions. Not feasible, imho.
However, if CP used the existing method (which I assume is automated), as on the Lounge, that with a certain number of reports a message can be removed automatically, that might work.
But do any of these ideas have a real benefit to CP, as a whole, compared to the potential engineering, and staff-time costs ?
So, report what you think is Spam, as Spam, and move on ?
yours, Bill

Yeah but think about this statement, and I hate to be epicurean but ... "I'm not a spammer"! Why would I be ostracized for posting a legimate spin on an old post. Particularly if it answers the question?
I think data is timeless.
The flip side of closing a post because it's been answered is that he same question gets reposted.
And consider HOW I got to this post and added my answer.
And why are "Solutions" numbered?
And ...

Hello everyone,
Since last many days,i found many questions where OP didn't show any effort. They just ask for the code or copy paste the error in Quick Answers section.I think one more reporting option should be there like, No Effort, in order to let others/the one who manages all this stuff internally know that OP have not put a single try.Refer to these snapshots.
http://s20.postimg.org/e270fhapp/photofun_168301404.jpg[^]
Its not an abuse or spam, question is complete as nothing needs to be added, not off topic and also can't be considered as Not a question. Only effort can be explained in order to resolve it,that is remaining, so NO EFFORT.
http://s20.postimg.org/6aqagx6kd/photofun_1856223619.jpg[^]
It was edited at the time i got the snapshot. Actual question was just 'PLEASE PROVIDE ANSWER'. This can be reported as Unclear/ Incomplete, but also as NO EFFORT.
It will be much beneficial for everyone if we have this mechanism.
Rule of debugging: "If you get a different error message, you're making progress."
