Come-on! The Lounge is a very serious place for very serious discussions...You should not lame it like this
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

Just updated Firefox to 44.0.
The format options and emoticons are missing again like reported here Bugs and Suggestions - CodeProject[^] and before for older updates.
Must it be fixed now with each new FF version?

Looks like it's been fixed - the formatting options are there for me.

Though I'm also running FF 44, still no formatting options here.

That's odd. What does the browser check page[^] say?
I get:

"Version string" and "Version" have values of 0.0 / 0 instead of 44.0 / 44 for whatever reason. But the 44 is still in the User Agent string.

I'm seeing the same issue. Browser check page is returning 0.0/0 for version string and version, and I'm still on FF 43.

My initial post was from home so I can't check it there.
But I have just installed the pending update here at work (after reading your post) and it is OK.
[EDIT]
Not OK at home.

Try now. I've hit it with a hammer, backed up by a large mallet, followed up by a mace.

Thanks, Chris! I prefer axes but your mace apparently did it

Maybe non-English posts should not be allowed at all? It's hardly reasonable for such a site to be able to understand and moderate every language under the sun. Who knows what some of these posts are saying, and plagiarism may be the least of concerns.
|
|
|
|

Automatically identifying the language of a piece of text is not an easy problem. Particularly when you consider some of the posts in the Lounge, where English regularly gets tortured for humorous effect.
If you've solved that, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on your private island drinking Champagne out of a supermodel's navel?

I was referring to the non-English language forums really which is what I think was one of the links he was referring to. That doesn't stop people posting non-English on the other forums, but at least those forums are regularly viewed so such a post would be reported.
Maybe just add some code to the forum like;
if (body.IndexOf("color") != -1 || body.IndexOf("ize") != -1)
{
return ValidationEnum.RejectPost;
}

You do realise that with the above examples, you are identifying English as a non-english language. In non-american English, the spelling is "colour" and the suffix is normally "ise" (see my spellingof realise above).

|

Yes, that was the joke I was implying the only English we should accept is the Queen's English as spoken in the UK, and that even the Americanised version should not be considered English. It's a class joke that us Brits enjoy to make
|
|
|
|
|
Technically we don't allow non-English anything as we are a predominantly English speaking site.

I hope this suggestion comes across well.
I'm a bit afraid I going to upset someone there at CP.
It would be quite nice for us new Article Writers if there were a way to see our submitted article in the queue and see if anyone has moderated it.
My latest has been in there for a few hours and I'm beginning to wonder if it fell off the queue or something.
I could possibly write something for CP to do this--I'm not being snarky here, I'm serious. Glad to help out.
The thing could just show a few details about your article, like how many more moderators have to sign off or something like that and how many times it's been viewed by moderators.
It could be a very cool feature.
|
|
|
|
|
Or you could just be patient, and wait for some feedback or final approval.

When I first read your snarky comment I must admit I had an emotional response, but I am mature enough and have suffered enough web-interactions to know how to handle this.
I will not make an ad hominem attack, but instead will focus on the specifics of the discussion.
You may very well want to consider the following:
1. this forum is called Bugs and SUGGESTIONS. Mine was simply a suggestion.
2. I was afraid of a comment exactly like yours and I took the time to even state in my comment that I was afraid I'd offend someone at CP.
3. Even your argument isn't sound: __that I should just wait for moderation and comments___.
That was the entire point. I can't even tell if the article is in the queue.
4. Consider what is going on now with the CP front-page: there are like 7 non-articles which are on there posted from someone's blog -- I'm assuming those got there with no moderation.
5. I was trying to help make CP better, not just make another complaint.
Notice that these are all suggestions and ideas to broaden the discussion about the CP users experience.
|
|
|
|
|
1. So was mine
2. Your comment did not offend me, I was just making a suggestion.
3. If you have submitted it then it will be in the queue.
4. Yes, there are some CP members who seem to be approving all sorts of poorly written articles.
5. And you are not the first.
