This occasionally happens with QA Solutions also. If you don't notice it then once you move off the page it's gone.

I'm seeing a spurious <pre> tag being inserted into C++ code:
Have I done something wrong, or is this a bug?

This works exactly as intended
pre tag allows to display the text as a code block, preserving indentation, using monospace font, and optionally providing basic syntax coloring if the lang attribute is set.
Inside the pre tag, make sure to html escape < , > and & characters with their respective html-escape sequence < , > and & .

Does it? It seems odd that it would generate a <pre> tag gratuitously following a blank line. Still as you say:
phil.o wrote: Inside the pre tag, make sure to html escape < , > and & characters with their respective html-escape sequence < , > and & . which I hadn't done. I've cleaned up the reply in the C++ forum that was triggered this for me, so that's all good now. But it does seem irksome that we need to replace various chars in our program text with HTML entities. I was kinda/sorta under the impression that the <pre> element was supposed to allow pasting of code verbatim, without having to further modify for HTML display.
Maybe, though, you could explain this weirdness:
Note that if I start a #include on a line inside a <pre> tag, it tries to turn it into a <h1> tag, but it seems to have worked fine for you. I run into this often, and the workarounds seem to be to either insert a space at the beginning of line, or use the HTML entity # . I'm using Chrome under Linux, if that makes any difference, so maybe it's something on the browser side that's causing this?

On pasting, normally you should see a frame where you can select between a few options:
The second option is the one which allows to automatically encode characters that could cause display issues.

phil.o wrote: Inside the pre tag, make sure to html escape < , > and & characters with their respective html-escape sequence < , > and & . That is not necessary, since the whole point of the <pre> (and <code>) tag sequences is to ignore special characters that occur inside them.

|

No, sorry. If you want to write something bold or italic inside the pre tag, you can, using <b> or <i> for example. Therefore the whole point of the pre tag is not to ignore specials characters; there is a small subset of html tags which can be used inside pre tags.

You are correct, I forgot about the special cases.

#include <iostream>
void myfn(int **date, size_t len)
{
for(size_t i = 0; i < len; ++i)
*data[i] = 1 * 2;
}
I can't see to replicate the issue.

Contrary to articles and tricks, it is impossible to leave a comment on a moderated blog entry.
There is a blog entry with a typo in the title itself; I flagged with a format issue, but cannot explain why to the author.

Problem is not new and they already know it, but I suppose that either it got down in the priority list or it is nastier than it looks and couldn't be solved yet.

I have been notified about a message that I supposed got deleted by the user himself, because there is nothing to find. I have the email notification so I know it is spam, but I can't find the user. I suppose he has got no other messages yet, so he can't be found searching by [Author: "24/7docs"]
Is there a way to directly search a user profile? I don't want to go to the "who is who" and navigate over thousands of pages to try to find him. I suppose he is relative new as most spammers, but is not the same to go through all newcomers of the day than to search for a specific one that might be one or two weeks old.
If no direct "user search" I think it could be a nice functionality for the S&A group.
Example: search for "*keto*", for "*baba*", for "*support*"... the usual suspects.
EDIT: Possible alternative: Link to the user profile in the notification? It already gives the link to reply to the concrete message. It could give the possibility to visit the profile of the author.

If you have the member's name from the email notification, you should be able to create the URL to their home page. For example I just added your name to https://www.codeproject.com/Members/ to get to your homepage: Nelek - Professional Profile[^].
|
|
|
|
|
Sorry but no...
It doesn't work as you expect. The URL is to be completed with the "@" Nick (the summon one) and it doesn't necessarily is the same as the one being displayed. I mean to get to you, we need:
https://www.codeproject.com/Members/Richard-MacCutchan - Richard MacCutchan - Professional Profile[^]
Trying:
https://www.codeproject.com/Members/Richard%20MacCutchan doesn't find you: CodeProject[^]
Displayed Username is or was "24/7docs", directly adding it:
24 - Professional Profile[^]
Not matching. The user "24" is older than me, and no evidence of a change of nick.
Encoding the "/" manually:
trying "24%2F7Docs" brings me to the user "24" above
and
trying "24/7docs" brings me to "Unable to load the requested member's information."

This doesn't work like that unfortunately. For example, my nick shortcut is User-890501 (I tried to change this several times but never succeeded).

We removed the ability to search for specific users because (a) it was being abused, and (b) it was a big load on the servers to do partial text matches in SQL (obviously there are way better ways to do this but since we decided to not do it in the first place we didn't proceed with the better way)

No to worry. The account was closed, so nothing to search for.

Is this broken or on the to-do list? I can't believe it's never come up.
Anyway, the author should be notified when someone starts a new thread on the article's discussion board. You get notified of replies, the same as elsewhere, but not the initial post.

All articles should provide notifications. If not, go to the article and check the 'Email Alerts' popup at the top of the forum and ensure you have some options selected.
Overnight one of our cache servers seems to have suffered a mishap. We're working on it now but no ETA at the moment. This is definitely impacting things a little.

I just made an answer to a QA question. Right after posting it, I click on the "All Questions" widget, which brings me back to the questions page, but also sets the filter to a bunch of tags, all of them related to VB (the question was tagged C#).
Then I clean the filter, click "Update", which brings me to the Lounge
When I go back to QA, this time the filter has been automatically set to anything c# relative. Second cleaning of the filter, update => this time it's ok, I stay on the QA forum and the filter has been cleared.
Weird
