Autopostback and Updatepanel conflict

In asp .net project when a page scrolls and we select dropdown item which autopostback property is true amd the dropdown is inside the updatepanel then which works first autopostback property or updatepanel. Is there any conflict? If not why the whole page refresh and scroll go to the top of the page. Please explain me. I will be very regretful.
