Hi,

Can anyone suggest some good MVC 4 books for beginners please?

I have experience in Web forms and I have looked at a few tutorials online but non seem to be 100% complete. It seems to be either too basic (how to create a project etc.) or to advanced and contain little examples.

I started to read OReilly Programming MVC 4 and I was excited to see it claims to have a tutorial for a small e-commerce store. Sadly, the tutorial is not so much a tutorial as a rough guide. It states which classes to create without stating what to include in them, I guess it is presuming a deeper knowledge of MVC 4 than I currently have.

Anyway, if anyone could suggest a could book or a good series of tutorials I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Dan

I suggest Manning's ASP.NET MVC 4 in Action[^].

Thank you, I will take a look. Nice to see someone helpful on this site. Down voted for asking about a book nice!

I am glad I have helped you. It is quite usual to get downvote for something you could get with a google search. Still, your question is not worth a downvote since you have made your trial, and you expected something based on one's experience. This book is really good for learning. I have read trough the MVC3 version myself. Just a suggestion: forget the forms part of asp.net before you start mvc, and try to get a good background in (x)html, javascript (jquery), css, http and eventually html5. Using ASP.NET MVC is more like php than web forms.

Thanks. I have a good grouding in xhtml and css, not so much in javascript. I will start there and work my way through. Again thanks for reply, as you rightly stated I wanted personal experience.

I'll second Zoltan's recommendation. MVC 4 In Action is an excellent book, well worth a read.
