Good Day,

I am doing my honors in Information Technology (it is a combination of Computer Science and Informatics at a university in South Africa).

I would like to join the Security community, thus, this is what my project will be about. But this is where I am stuck, I have two ideas (which I will explain later) but I don't know where to start.

My first idea is to focus on the security issues of the cloud, however, since people will accept these issues because of all the benefits you gain, convincing people that your solution is another benefit, would not be as greatly received as one would hope.

My other idea is a suggestion from a friend, to focus on the security issues regarding EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) smart cards.

The two categories that I am interested in is Information Security, and Information Security Governance, which takes me to my first idea, Cloud security flaws.

I don't know where I should start with these flaws, since there are a number of them, or if I should be looking for a new one, should I look at something that the cloud completely misses??

If you have any suggestions, guidance or any other useful information that could help me in finding a great idea that would stand out from the rest, I would highly appreciate it!!

Thanks in advance,
Rossouw

P.S I hope this falls in the right category, if not, feel free to move it :)

Hello Rossouw:
My suggestion with regard to cloud computing security is to read everything you can on cloud computing (go to sites like internet.com and technologyreview.com) and search for any and all articles on cloud computing. The goal: find where there are potential security "leaks" and think of ways that you can help "seal those leaks". Then develop your thoughts and ideas and then publish them.

Also, if you haven't already set up an account on LinkedIn.com and network with IT staff already in the industry (join Groups, related to your area of interest). Join discussions, within those LinkedIn Groups, where you can present your ideas and get feedback. Then use that feedback to help shape your solutions....

Good Luck!

Cool, thanx buddy!

I am already on LinkedIn, and will have a look at the above mentioned sites.

Thanx again!
Rossouw
Part of the task is coming up with the idea on your own.
