How to connect my winform app to a scanner

Hi dont know if this is posible but i want to connect my winform app to a scanner, so that when a picture is scanned into the system my app sees it automatically so i can work with it from my app.
The scanner could be a printer scanner,x-ray scanner, finger print scanner and so on. Thanks guys
