What do you call "extended characters"? What is "long"? What platform, standard, framework, or whatever do you refer? What do you mean by "custom protocol"? In network protocol, there are levels and a notion of "application level". Is that what you mean, or is it something else. Just curious, do you, professor, have elementary school education?
