See if you have window application then just build application. And copy the debug folder in bin of your project. and on clicking on exe in this folder you can run the project.

Sounds like, you want to publish the website through installer.

Dude you try to understand: What you are seeing is a shortcut for your WEB APPLICATION. You want to access it without VS once done. So, this means you HAVE to PUBLISH to on a server and then save the link of the login webpage on your desktop to access it.

Understand and try out.

Dear ythisbug, if you wrote an application using C# and ASP.NET, you need to publish your web site. Please, read carefully linked articles.
If you are saying that you want to create a shortcut to your program on the desktop, then you just need to use the context menu. Right click on the desktop, select New -> Shortcut, and fill in the details.

Or perhaps that is not your question.

OK, then perhaps you would like to explain in better detail what you are trying to do. From your original question it is impossible to guess.

What do you mean by this, a file is not made as software. A software project is built to create a library or executable file.
ythisbug wrote:

Fine, you can run or not run as you need.
ythisbug wrote:
..is it possible to create one desktop file.?
Yes, any file can be placed on the desktop.
ythisbug wrote:

Again, what do you mean by "software file"?
ythisbug wrote:

You have tagged this question SQL2005, C#, ASP.NET, so where does Java come into the problem? If you mean, how do you create a shortcut on the desktop, I already explained that in my previous answer. Although you say that is not what you want, so what do you mean by shortcut?
ythisbug wrote:

Again, this means nothing; do what in VS2008?
